So, we have our classic-Vania weapon of choice. For our purposes, we're going to say that it is NOT a finesse weapon given the weight (10 lbs.) and the fact that its already improvised. We're also going to try to keep this "thematically appropriate" with the whole warrior against evil bit.
Here's what I have so far:
Human Variant
Tavern Brawler (need that imp. weapon proficiency)
STR: 14 -> 16 (+1 racial and +1 for Brawler) DEX: 12 CON: 13 -> 14 (+1 racial) INT: 8 WIS: 10 CHA: 15
My initial thought was to take him Dev/Paladin to at least level 3 for Sacred Weapon and Turn the Unholy. Sacred weapon totally plays into the Vampire Killer whip idea, Divine Smite does too, take Dueling for damage awesomeness and he can still use a shield. Its one instance where I'd consider keeping something like Searing/Thunderous Smite prepped to play into the flaming/supersonic whip idea.
Just curious to see what you guys would do with a starter build like that. I was disappointed to see the standard whip in the equipment section was such a poor choice.

I kinda feel like he shold be a warlock though, just so he can cast jump at-will. Cause it isn't castlevainia unless your jumping alot. |

The concept works just fine with a whip, even going the "Simon is a barbarian" route like I did for a Castlevania-themed one-off I ran.
Whip (which if your DM is cool will later get upgraded with some bonus fire or radiant damage), holy water, silver daggers, handaxes - all the classic Belmont weapons are there. |

For example, when it comes to finding new loot, when it comes to weaponry, the DM can instead have yours get powered-up. Perhaps have it to Radiant or Fire damage for 1 minute every long rest, then every short rest, etc. If you talk to your DM beforehand, you can help figure out if Devotion or Vengeance paladin would be better for you. |
