If you did not know River Tam is a fictional character from Firefly series. I know it is more sci-fi then fantasy but I care more about essential characteristicks of River. Extremly gifted and talented, unpredictable and - against her will - a deadly assasin created by some weird experiment in Academy. Probably a magical experiment in D&D world.

I was thinking about Rogue (Assasin) class but I also like elements of Monk (Shadow). I read about Psionics in Unearth Arcana which would be also very background-ish for her. Or even some arcane class like Melee Wild Sorcerer? The Background is also a challange. Something like good-minded Criminal with uncontrollable surges of evil-minded Criminal?

What do you think?

Dex based Barbarian. Potentially MC'd Rogue. If you can stretch yourswlf far wnough Mystic too.

Or;

Race: Human, Elf, Half Elf, or Air Genasi

Class: Open Hand Monk / Mystic (low level)

Background: Damaged Psychic Weapon/experiment

Skills: Insight (Precog abilities) + Intimidation

Personality trait: Sometimes I say seemingly random things that can cause people to feel uncomfortable.

Flaw: after combat, requires lots of soothing and sleep.

I actually think she might be better played as a mentally ill  NPC sought by the law, who the Party have to get from A-B but she keeps attacking them, giving them the slip, or giving their position away. Could make for an interesting and/or amusing quest. What intelligence score would the man they call Jane have?

You could even make a case for some levels of Warlock, her pact being the powers she was given against her will.

Good insights here. I also thought about using her personality for creation of NPC with interesting quest rather than PC. Dex Barbarian with rage is good idead too. But it is missing "Also... I can kill you with my brain." stuff. Some wise multiclass with Mystic or Walock is probable the way to go fo PC.

If you are the DM, you could litterally run the movie with her brother a life cleric and a Marshal after you and see how long it takes people to twig/cotton on.

If it's not happening you might have to cue the boat's captain to say either "I am a leaf on the Wind", or "Oh gods, oh gods we're all going to die!"
