I'm going to be porting my Pathfinder paladin over to 5e Forgotten Realms when the PHB is released to see how it plays. Considering my pally's background relates to characters and events from the world of Golarion instead of Faerun, I plan on writing a new history, of course, and have ordered A Brief HIstory of the Realms to help me in that regard, since my knowlege of the Realms from past edtions is far from fresh in my mind.
The purpose of this thread is to share my PF character background with you all, as I am interested in your take on whether this same background could be altered to fit with the history/characters/events of the Realms. Creators of the Pathfinder setting openly acknowlege that their inspiration stems from their love for the Forgotten Realms setting, so I'm curious if there are closely related counterparts between game worlds. I'm also looking to tap into your creatively as I'm constantly amazed at how well-versed members are in the lore of the Realms and the inspiration it provides for my own writing.
The Tragedy of Krynn the Unhallowed (PF version)
In 3827 AR, the Shining Crusade ended a decades long war fought by the Taldoran Empire, the dwarves of Kraggodan Kingdom, and the Knights of Ozem against the forces of the Whispering Tyrant of Ustalav (Tar Baphon). Tar Baphon's epic defeat was marked by the founding of Lastwall the following year which, to this day, guards the immensely powerful necromancer's prison.
What has been lost to myth and legend, however, is the tragic story of Lord Krynn. A valiant swordsman and knight of Ozem, Krynn rose to prominence in the era of the Shining Crusade, leading the forces of his sister-in-arms (the then mortal) Iomedae. Thought to have been a casualty of the final battle, Krynn's fate was much more grim.
Taken prisoner by the cultists of the Whispering Way, Krynn was subjected to a dark and powerful curse, his image horribly twisted, yet even the powerful Tar Baphon could not corrupt his soul. Seeing that his plans for Krynn to become his dark knight of vengeance would not see fulfillment, the Tyrant cast him to stone as an example to all who would defy his wrath.
Lost to time, Krynn remained frozen for centuries, while Iomedae later ascended to Godhood upon the death of the God Aroden in 4606 AD. I was not until 4711 AD, that the petrified statue of Krynn was found beneath the catacombs of Tar Baphon's unholy citadel of Gallowspire by a mysterious cleric, the intent and motivations of whom remain unknown. What has been discerned, however, is that this cleric used his divine power to bring Krynn back to life, and while unable to fully eradicate the Tyrant's curse, had cast a powerful spell to cover Krynn's face in shadow, permanently hiding the horrible visage placed upon him so many centuries ago.
884 years have passed, but through faith in the divine, Krynn now continues his quest against the forces of darkness...
Similar battleground locations are found in the Fields of the Dead which are north east of Baldur's Gate. Further east from that location is the Battle of Bones and Skull Gorge. Nearby to the Fields of the Dead is a lawless frontier town named Soubar. It's main inn is a former temple to some old evil deity, perhaps Cyric or Bane, etc. You could have your hero be lost from one of the old battles nearby in the Fields of Dead and then turned to stone in the undercellars, crypts or ruins beneath Soubar's inn. Alternatively, the stronghold of the Cult of Dragons is the Well of Dragons which is very near the Battle of Bones and Skull Gorge. Perhaps you could tie your PC into cultist activity in the upcoming Tyranny of Dragons storyline. FInally, nearby Skull Gorge to the south is Darkhold, a stronghold of the Zhentarim, a powerful and non-good faction in Faerun. It would fit pretty well with your PC's story, perhaps he was turned from stone to flesh by a cleric of Bane who serves the Zhentarim faction, etc. Good luck and hope that gives you some ideas. There are lots of maps and histories for these locations that you can google for as well.

This area sounds like it has a very rich history to draw from and I especially like how the inn is built on an old temple to an evil god. Very cool and inspiring. I'm going to run with your excellent storyline after a bit of wiki research. My sincerest appreciation for your assist with this.
you're welcome. i've done some extensive planning and DMing around this region if you don't find details or need more sources. i have a lot of it memorized so may not know which sources i got a lot of them from. it's one of my more favorite regions of faerun though.

Can you see this whole area working for Ustalav in Golarion as well? Is there legend of a lick nearby?
I have been wanting to run the carrion crown adventure path in the forgotten realms and am looking for a place to put it..
