| #1HermanTheWizeJun 12, 2015 6:04:06 | I want help finding the right progression and combinations of classes. I will most likely be starting somewhere between level 3-5.
|
| #2melloredJun 12, 2015 6:45:15 | Either ranger 5 or fighter 5, and assassin 3. Depending on weather you want spells or action surge.
Crossbow expertise will work in melee. So will shortswords. |
| #3YunruJun 12, 2015 6:49:34 | Fighter 1/Rogue X with Crossbow Expert. Melee's covered, two attacks is covered, Archery fighting style is covered. Don't take Sharpshooter unless it's for the ignoring cover. Seriously. With Sneak Attack it's not worth it. |

| #5YunruJun 12, 2015 7:08:52 | More sneak attack? IDK, but given he's starting between levels 3 and 5 and want's assassination, Fighter 1/Rogue 3/Fighter 2 would be my revised opinion. |
| #6NoctaemJun 12, 2015 7:12:16 | Fighter 2/rogue 3? |
| #7HermanTheWizeJun 12, 2015 7:19:50 | The reason for sharpshooter would be reliable sniping and also the backup damage. Probably going to be using longbow.
Think I want 11 levels in fighter and 7 levels in rogue

| #8jaappletonJun 12, 2015 7:15:44 | What part of "between levels 3 and 5" are people missing? |
| #9melloredJun 12, 2015 7:18:48 | I wouldn't worry about the level 20 when your starting at level 3-5.
Fighter does more damage and more HP. Rogue adds skills. Ranger adds spells. |

| #11HermanTheWizeJun 12, 2015 7:26:28 | I agree with Mello either Ranger or Fighter 5 and rogue 3. Definatly gonna get to Rogue 7 though, if I reach that point, but probably no more.
Now it's just do I want spells and clossuses slayer or battlemaster maunevers and action surge.

| #12shintashiJun 12, 2015 7:55:16 | My Archer is ok, Ranger/ Rogue / Cleric; and basically, what I took was a good bow, some bracers, and lots of dex. I took that thing that gives bonus damage when an enemy is already injured. Hail of Thorns or Hunter's Mark. Two attacks don't give you two backstab attempts. Sneak attack is for one attack and you have to have circumstances where it works. You would think that's a lot, but it isn't as often as you might think.
5e critical structure is going to favor rogue sneak dice more than the archery feat, but the archery feat can be used even when you don't have permission to sneak attack. I probably clear between 40 and 60 per round, not sure if that's good or bad, but for what it's worth, I hit AC between 25 and 30+ 90% of the time, out to 600 feet. |
| #13HermanTheWizeJun 12, 2015 8:13:34 | Has anyone went a straight fighter archer, what's your guys experience with that? |

| #18dbsquirlJun 12, 2015 9:44:50 | Human Fighter 2/Rogue 3 with Crossbow Expert will have the Fighting Style, Assassinate, two attacks, and an Action Surge that you could use during the Assassinate window. |
| #19drizzt_zyloJun 12, 2015 17:20:00 | There is a decent build somewhere on these boards that claims it makes a better ranger than a ranger that uses all three of those classes for exactly the same reasons mentioned action surge cunning action skills archery spells battle master maneuvers you may want to look it up. |
