#1 xichi Mar 22, 2015 23:31:58	Hello! So I'm looking for some advice on class, and anything else interesting you can think of.   HOKAY! So. My character concept I have come up with is this Female Drow in the Forgotten Realms setting. She grew up royalty and was part of a large family of strong, cruel Drows. She never liked the way that the Drow society treats the males, at one point her brother is executed for something (still working on a lot of details here).  This sends her into a rage and she flees the Underdark into the "glorious open world" to find justice for the harm brought unto males (she's kinda stupid btw, low wis).   For some reason she thinks it's a good idea to go into the world and spread her cause of "Male equality" (she has no idea that the world outside of the Underdark does not have this "problem"). She creates a group called the DAMD - Drows Against Male Discrimination. She goes around handing out hand carved buttons with DAMD on them, asking people to "Join the Damned!" (that's what it sounds like at least).     Another big part of the character, is that she is ashamed of the ideals of being a woman because of the matriachal society she was brought up in. This being said, she binds her chest and ties her hair into a knot and hides it under a cap and talks in a false deep voice.    SO. It's kinda a silly background, but I'm having fun with the idea of it. It's totally not something I've ever tried before, and is absolutely rediculous. but hey that's D&D.   What I am trying to figure out though, is what kind of class fits her. I originally just was thinking Rogue, because the party needs one, but I would want to make sure that it made sense for the character. However I think there might be other options.   End of wall of text! If anyone has any ideas for class, or other quirks or ideas to help flesh it out that'd be awesome.    P.S. Do not think that this background choice is some political stance or something like that, it's just for fun.
#2 Macv12 Mar 22, 2015 23:44:55	I wouldn't bother with the breast binding and stuff. Feminist men don't generally shave, wear dresses, and stuff apples in their shirts because they're ashamed of being men or whatever. I don't think that really adds to an otherwise kickass concept. But you're playing her, so whatever sounds fun.   Why does the party "need" a rogue?   That's a rhetorical question. No party "needs" a rogue. What niche are you trying to fill? Skill variety? Burst damage? Ranged attacking?   Paladin sounds god for this concept. Make a non-religious oath as the source of your power. Devotion (for the "protect the innocent!" flavor) might be appropriate   You could also multiclass rogue for a level or two to get Expertise and Cunning Action, to emphasize the way she was trained to fight originally (taking advantage of shadows, being highly trained and/or educated because of her social class, or whatever), then take your other levels in whatever class she trains as on the surface, after giving up her past life.   Wizard also gives you a bunch of utility in a similar vein to Expertise, and has that potential "educated in a cloistered royal chamber" feel.

People keep misunderstanding her "Join the DAMD!" statement, because they think she's literally "damned" and trying to corrupt them. Fast forward, people with torches and pitchforks are pounding on her door, and she looks forlornly at the party and says "the surface is horrible, I just wanted gender equality, and this is how far they'll go to prevent it?"
#4 xichi Mar 23, 2015 0:03:06	Oh my gosh so many wonderful ideas thank you. I guess when I say "needs a rogue", you are right, no party actually neeeeds one. However the group I am in is fairly inexperienced, I am mainly the only one who has really played before to any extent, so I thought it may have been helpful to have someone who can deal with traps and stealth and such. However... I am loving your idea of Necro/Warlock. I am gonna put some serious thought into that! Also good point about the binding and such, lots to think about.

#8 cbwjm Mar 23, 2015 13:51:49	If she grew up as Drow royalty then I would roll cleric since they tend to be the ones in charge of Drow society and it is likely that she would have been made to join the priesthood. I've no idea how she may have escaped Lolth's wrath but then I also have no idea if Lolth is still alive and well in the Forgotten Realms.
