I just started playing very recently D&D 5e and one of the games Im playing is a bit special.
Instead of creating a character you are given one that wakes up in an unknown room and doesnt remember anything about himself or how he arrived there, so you have to "discover" yourself during the story.
So class, race and equipment were given depending on a pair of rolls and we rolled individually for each stat too. So I basically had 0 decision in my initial setup that is the following:
Im a level 1 stout halfling ranger with the following stats after all bonuses have been applied:
Str: 13 Dex: 15 Con: 17 Int: 14 Wis: 13 Cha: 15
My equipment so far is a shortsword and a shortbow. i have no money (some of my partners have some platinum though) and I still dont know my proficiencies. Will be discovered along the way too. I only played a session so far so its all I know by now.
I guess you can already imagine my problem. With 5 uneven scores and not great stats in dexterity and wisdom I hesitate a lot on what to build. I thought that due to high constitution I could aim for TWF so spells (and with it wisdom) wont be so important for me. The problem still is that rangers do need their spells to be able to bring damage or utility on par with other classes. I dont aim to be a powerhouse but I wanna be decent and able to do my share.
Any tips or what should I take as style, level ups and so? |

If you are very concerned about lower DEX, you could always go Beast Master. BM is not particularly optimized, but it does get you around your lower Dex.
You could also Multiclass. Barbarian could work out with your high Dex. |

My idea was going for archery but archery relies a lot arround the spells and my spell modifier/Dc is gonna be pretty bad. So unless I can get arround with spells that dont rely much on either it feels that Im gonna lack damage and utility as the amrtial ability by itself of the ranger doesnt give him that much. |
