So, it's not so much help with mechanics that I need more with the details.

I'm stuck between two names; Arius(AHR-eus) Dundragon and Cacen(KAY-sen) Dundragon.

And I'm having trouble picking a flaw for him. We play in a homebrew setting and sorcerers and wizards tend to study together in an attempt to perfect their art. So I chose the Sage background for the character but I'm having trouble giving him a flaw.

I don't know much about your setting but in general this is a conversation I would have with a DM. You want a flaw that the DM will remember and will make the game more interesting rather than more punishing. The sage is really flavored for an int character rather than a cha character imo.

That being said, with very little information to go on, I would recommend option 3 as it provides an easy plot hook mechanism for your DM rather than being an annoyance to remember and play around.

A cool flaw for any Dragon-blood Sorcerer would be something like "Hot-headed - you lose your cool more easily than most, sometimes making rash decisions when tempers flare high."  It isn't in the book, but it should be.

Some researchers are bull-headed when it comes to topics they have been researching (just look at any thread on these forums to see how quickly tempers can flare when someone contradicts what someone else has "researched") and your character is not immune to that feeling of "But I looked this up and I *know* it's right!".  Being in an academic city, there will be plenty of chances for your DM to have someone refute something your character found out, giving you a chance to try to prove your facts or shut-up the nay-sayer!

What's the color/metal of his draconic ancestry? Could be an allusion for which name you choose. For instance, Arius shares phonemes with aurum, the Latin word for gold, so that would be kind of cool. As a matter of personal opinion, I think Arius sounds better than Cacen, but the surname of Dundragon falls flat in my ears. Names are such a subjective matter though.

If you're really having trouble thinking of a good flaw, you could choose one based on the nature of his draconic ancestry. The Monstrous Manual provides some keywords into dragon archetypes I'll share here. Others may disagree with my interpretation of stereotypical dragon personalities, but it's a starting point and maybe brainstorm juice for you.

Black: brutal and cruel

Blue: vain and deadly

Green: capricious and manipulative

Red: arrogant and obsessive (I would add greedy)

White: bestial and vengeful

Brass: gregarious and talkative

Bronze: combative (against tyranny) and curious

Copper: social and crafty

Gold: aloof and calculating

Silver: virtuous and mortal-loving

As for my character names I have a few that I routinely use depending on the personality of the character I am making.  Rash and hot headed = Haedia.  Cool tempered and intelligent = Calistis.  Sneaky and without scruples = Noctem.  Mentaly unstable and dangerous = Dol.  And so on.
