Help with Multiclassing

Hello,

 

I am trying to do two different sets of multiclassing.  The first involves the pregen Noble Fighter.  I would like to multi that one with a Bard to gain the casting abilities, but I haven't multied since AD&D and I seem to have forgotten how to do it.  Any advice?

 

The second is a new toon and I am looking at going with a Rock Gnome Rogue/Sorcerer.  Any suggestions?

You simply take a level of bard, gaining all the benifits of bard 1, instead of a level of fighter.

Also, if you haven't multiclassed since 2nd, note that when you level up you take a level in one class or the other, it isn't like 2nd Edition where you split XP between levels in the two classes.

What are you trying to achieve with the rogue sorcerer? It seems to me like rogue warlock has better synergy unless you have your heart set on sorcerer.

I hate making assumptions but you didn't provide very much information about the characters you want to build.  Some backstory of the characters would help or atleast more explaination as to why you want to multiclass.  Is it for roleplay purposes?  Is it for character optimization?  Is it because you really enjoy playing both classes?

 

So, I guess you want to multiclass a nobel fighter with a bard just for the spell casting ability?  Why not just take a high elf (free cantrip), or Human alternate (Magic Initiate Feat) and go Eldritch knight at 3rd level as a Fighter?  You don't have to switch classes, you have more hit points, not losing/slowing down progression of your fighter class special abilities and you are only one level away from a Stat Boost/or Feat.

 

You want a Rogue Sorcerer, I assume because you want to cast spells that compliment your Rogue abilities?  Why not just take a high elf (free cantrip) or Human Alternate (Magic Initiate Feat) and go Arcane Trickster at 3rd level as a Rogue?

 

To be honest, I love the fact that they designed this latest edition to make multiclassing a less desireable option.  One of the thing I sorely loathed about the third edition and pathfinder was that nearly every had to multiclass to be the most effective character possible.  This edition flipped the script on that idea!
