| #2melloredJan 09, 2015 22:39:20 | assuming you get advantage with darkness (and have agonizing blast), then darkness. though it dosn't last as long and you can't move so you'll end up burning more slots. |
| #3BrunsenBrurnerJan 09, 2015 23:05:45 | It depends the opponent's AC, but unless you're hitting on a 7 or below, Darkness is better from a pure damage standpoint. |
| #4melloredJan 09, 2015 23:56:31 | well, i guess agaisnt super easy to hit targets hex is better. but it also uses your bonus action, so blasting 3 kobolds you can only hex 1 per turn. |
| #5CutlassJan 10, 2015 0:33:03 | I think that would depend. Does your warlock have the Devil's Sight invocation? If so then Darkness could be quite useful. If he doesn't have that invocation then Hex might be better. Note that if a Warlock who had the Devil's Sight invocation and the Darkness spell wanted to he could cast the Darkness on the hilt of his belt knife. That would give him a magically dark area to operate in that he could see through which would move as he did. Or go to where ever he threw the knife to. From my point of view given that Hex is a first level spell and Darkness is a second level spell I don't see why a warlock who had Devil's Sight wouldn't use both of them. If the warlock doesn't have Devil's Sight then Darkness is not as useful. |

| #11durntaurJan 12, 2015 9:53:01 | I think another con to Darkness is that it doesn't play nice with your allies. |

Then my subsequent hide checks against them become so much better... |

| #19YunruJan 12, 2015 16:35:12 | Yeah, Coredump gets stroppy if you oppose his view. :P But no, seriously, there is not a single instance of Darkness being unfriendly that can't be solved by either pointing out the rules on hiding or, and this is such a rare one, teamwork and positioning. |
