Hey Everyone.  So a group of us recently started playing DandD 4e.  Prior to starting we each built out a character, presented to the GM who approved the choices.  Most of us are new to the game except the GM.  Now that we are into it, I am finding that we have some heavy overlap in characters (heal/leader) and am wondering how I can improve my character to help balance things out.

Party Composition:

Lvl 4

Half-Elf Cleric

Human Paladin

Elf Ranger (Bow)

Eladrin Wizard (staff)

Dragonborn Warlord - me

Content:

Really no limits on what content we can use for character building so any suggestions are helpful.

My warlord:

Inspiring

High strength/charisma

Med con

Dump Dex/Int

My though was to try and support the Paladin as much as possible to increase the amount of damage/protection offered the group.

I have Bastard sword proficiency, heavy blade expertise and enlarged dragonbreath.

Direct the strike, viper's strike, hammer and anvil, lead the attack (want to retrain), knight's move and warlord's strike.

Hi, I think you got the wrong forums- these are the 5th Edition Player Help forums.

No, just repost.  People will give you some more detail when you do - but you'd do well to provide a little more detail yourself when you do - expected level range, any DM-imposed restrictions, general party optimisation levels, what theme and background you're taking, etc etc.

FWIW, there's little problem with overlap - Warlords' big thing is buffing and enabling, not healing, so focus on picking powers that thet the Paladin and the Archer (possibly the Cleric if he's got a decent MBA) attack and give the party bonuses to attack and damage.  Don't worry about the healing, all you need to be able to do really is get the cleric back up, he'll handle that.

(FWIW, one of the most effective parties is four warlords and a Slayer, so...)

Don't dump both dex and int, you need a reflex defence, not to mention initiative.  You've very little need for con.

Bastard sword prof is absolutely not worth bothering with, nor's enlarged DB.  Otherwise looks fine.
