Devoid of vision, you learned to rely on your other senses for survival. Your ears pick up the faintest footfall or
whisper echoing down stone passageways. For most, blindness is an enormous hindrance. For you with its other heightened
senses, sightlessness is a boon; You aren't fooled by visual illusions or misperceptions.

You lose whatever vision your race grants you, and gain blindsight of 60ft. (20ft. while deafened). Additionally you have advantage on all perception checks relating to hearing.

Disabilities are not an advantage.  If a blind character could develope blindsight without using magical means so could a non-blind character with practice.

I would prefer to give them something to the following:

You do not suffer disadvantage for being blinded, and attacking creatures do not gain advantage against you. However, you automatically fail all perception checks relying on sight.

That's nothing like balanced Yunru. The benefit is more like that of a feat than a background.

Blindsight is very powerful, and you even have the gall to make this hearing-based one partially effective when deafened.

Actually it's not. I did my homework. Blindsight changes nothing of a creature's CR, and thus nothing of it's balance. Re: Kalani: I thought that was obvious from the lack of other senses but I'll add it.

Yes it's better than Darkvision. False Identity is better than a Forgery Kit.

Might change it to a half-feat, except that doesn't make chronological sense.

It already costs their current vision. Looking at the NPC races, it doesn't cost a stat either.

NPCs and PCs aren't directly comparable, balance-wise.

Although I must admit I like the idea of it being a variant rule.
