So below will be two archetype I'm making for a martial elemental champion, using paladin, and caster elemental champion, using scorcerer.  I'm close to finishing the martial elemental champion, but haven't had much time on the scorcerer yet.

Elemental Champion(Paladin Archetype)

Not necessarily an oath, but a calling. Through your words and actions, you have sparked the interest of of the elemental lords of all four elemental planes. Starting at level 3  the planes of Air, Earth, Fire or Water bestow powers unto you, you gain different spells and abilities through your adventures, becoming the Elemental Champion.

Elemental Smite:

Your Divine Smite, and at level 11 improved divine smite, deal elemental damage of your choice. You can choose a elemental type after a short or long rest. Until you take another short or long rest and change it, it will remain the same. You can choose lightening, thunder, fire, acid or cold damage.

Elemental Knowledge

You can speak, read, and write Primordial. Additionally, whenever you make a Charisma check when interacting with elementals, your proficiency bonus is doubled if it applies to the check.

Minor Elemental Magic – Level 1

You can now cast the following cantrips as an action:

  • Control Flame
  • Gust
  • Mold Earth
  • Shape Water

Elemental Champion Spells:

Paladin Level Spells

3rd – Absorb Elements, Fog Cloud

5th – Misty Step, Maximilian’s Earthen Grasp

9th – Elemental Weapon, Protection From Energy

13th - Stoneskin, Fire Shield

17th – Conjure Elemental(Concentration not required), Wall of stone

Channel Divinity – Level 3
Elemental Defense:

The elements themselves fight to protect you from harm, earth erupts to block weapon attacks, wind whirls to deflect missiles and water and fire attempt to protect your from magic.  As a bonus action, the elements come to your aid against a creature you can see within 10 feet of you for 1 minute, using your Channel Divinity CD. You gain advantage on saving throws against any spells cast by the creature and it has disadvantage on attack rolls targeting you.

Gift of the Elements- Level 7

The Elemental Lords themselves have saw fit to bless you with their essence; aspects of you change, including appearance. You gain the following abilities:

  • Air: Your jump distance is doubled.
  • Earth: Your push, press, pull and carrying capacity are increased by 50%.(Rounded up)
  • Fire: You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 60 feet, however this darkvision is unique in that you see in a spectrum of red.
  • Water: You can now breathe underwater, and gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed, in addition you can now communicate with creatures of the sea.

Greater Elemental Defense - Level 15

As the elements came to your aid, they now see that aiding your allies is the same as aiding yourself. As a reaction, while elemental defense channel divinity is active, when the creature you have chosen casts a spell that affects one of your allies, or an attack, you can give one of those allies advantage on their saving throw against that spell, or disadvantage to the creatures attack roll targeting your ally. Your ally must be within 30 feet of you.

Improved Elemental Summoning - Level 17

When you cast the Conjure Elemental Spell, you require no concentration to force the elemental to obey you. It recognizes you as its champion and follows your orders willfully.

Elemental Conduit - Level 20

At level 20 you can use an action to become a conduit of power for all of the elements for 1 hour, regained after a long rest. Your outward appearances greatly changes to reflect all of the elements that are surging through your body.  Each element gives you a different set of benefits:

  • Earth Elemental - As a bonus action, you can create a minor earthquake at any point within 60 feet of you with a 20 foot radius. Knocking all creatures prone if they fail a DC 8 + Charisma Mod + Proficiency Bonus strength saving throw. That area is now considered dificult terrain.  This can be used once every five rounds.
  • Air Elemental - You gain the ability to fly at 60 feet movement.
  • Fire Elemental - If a creature is within 5 feet of you at the end of your turn, it takes d10 fire damage and ignites.
  • Water Elemental - You can swim at 60 feet movment.

Elemental Born (Scorcerer Origin)

As most Scorcerer are, you are born with these powers. Not through bloodline like the Dragon Scorcerers, or through seemingly randomness like the wild magic scorcerers, but through prophecy. The elementals lord have predicted a great potenital in you, wether that potential is met is up to you. You are an elemental born.

Elemental Link - Level 1

You are blessed by all the elements, but you can only hold the essence of one elemental plane at a time by linking yourself to it. At the end of a short, or long rest, you may choose one damage type; Thunder, Lightning, Fire, Acid orCold. You now gain resistance to that type. You can change this elemental type at the end of a short or long rest. Depending on the type you have choosen, your physical apperance changes to reflect this.

You gain the follow cantrips: Control Flame, Gust, Mold Earth and Shape Water.

You can speak, read, and write Primordial. Additionally, whenever you make a Charisma check when interacting with elementals, your proficiency bonus is doubled if it applies to the check.

When you cast the Conjure Elemental Spell, you require no concentration to force the elemental to obey you. It recognizes you as an elemental born and follows your orders willfully.

Armor of the Earth - Level 1

The elementals of the earthen plane give you protection the other elements cannot. Earth molds around your and provides you with AC equal to 13 + Your Dexterity Modifier and DR 2 bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage.

Improved Elemental Link - Level 6

As the elements bless you with defense, now they bless you with offense. You may choose a second element, or the same one, to link with as in the same manner as you did as Elemental Link, and gain bonus damage equal to your charisma modifier to spells of that element.  Your physical appearance nows shows both elements you chose, or changes your apperance further if you are using the same element as from Elemental Blessing.

Elemental Knowledge- Level 14

You can spend a bonus action to determine any elemental weakness, resistances, or immunities of a creature.  You can spend 1 SP to change the damage type of your elemental spells.

Elemental Form - Level 18

You can spend 4 sorcerer points to polymorph into an elemental.

Need any feedback I can get. I think these two will come to be much more balanced and easier to deal with than my attempt to create a whole new class.

Thanks to Mellored and Daspian for ideas.

I don't see how hold monster fits...

I would also add elemental weapon.

I would stick self targeting spells, rather then any blasting spell.

The only reason I'm holding off on elemental weapon is because of the elemental smite. Would be giving a second similar ability.

@Mellored Outside of the spells, do you think the rest seems reasonable. My attempt to balance came from a comparison to the vengance Paladin.

Now if you ment...

Greate Elemental Defense:

When the target of your Elemental Defense targets a creature other then you, you can spend your reaction to give the attack disavantage or the saving throw advantage.

Then sure.

@Mellored On the bright side, I think this archtype is getting close to being pretty seemingly balanced. Then I'll start working on the caster.

This took about 1 10th the time do create, compared to making a whole class. >.<

Like I used the Vengance Paladin to help balance this, I'll probably use the dragon sorcerer to help balnce the caster.

Anyone have any ideas what I should call the Elemental Archetype for scorcerer? Feels like it shouldn't also be elemental champion.

Elemental Adept:

1: You gain resistance to an element.  You can spend an action to change elements.

6: You can spend 2 sorcerer points to polymorph into an minor elemental.

14: You can spend a bonus action to determine any elemental weakness, resistances, or immunities of a creature.  You can spend 1 SP to change the damage type of your elemental spells.

18: You can spend 4 sorcerer points to polymorph into an elemental.

Alternate: get an elemental familiar.

How are these remotely balanced? The Paladin gets all this crap that no other Oath offers. 4 cantrips, additional language with advantage to interact, and Smites that do whatever damage type they damn well please? All the flippin time! If you make it a second Channel Divinity (like all other Oaths get) with a 1 minute time, then I can see it being an option.

What's the point in making the AC better than the Dragon Sorcerer? There's no reason it shouldn't be the same.
