Man we really need a Homebrew thread. Currently this could be in Player Help (Character creation is involved), DM Help (World building) or General.

Anyway, been working on a Sniper class for a while (read: 15 Minutes), a class that focuses on high-accuracy, high-damage single attacks. Currently I've gotten the following:

At level 1, you gain the Archery Fighting Style. Why the fighting style instead of a plain +2? To prevent stacking.

At level 5, you can add half your Perception modifier to your to-hit and damage rolls.

At level 7, you gain a +2 to damage rolls with Ranged Weapons.

At level 11, you gain advantage on all Ranged Weapon Attacks.

I've yet to figure out where to go from here. I've run the numbers and currently it comes out just ahead of the standard bow fighter in terms of DPR- offset by the fact that it's all single target.

A sniper would be more like a ranged Assassin Rogue.  Very high single target damage, accurate because he SHOULD be always starting the fight with advantage.

That said, this is a cool idea, and if you want to build it on the fighter chassis, I'd say go ahead and make it a fighter subclass.  Give them the ability to trade in extra attacks they may have for extra damage or extra accuracy on your attacks.  IE:  Give up 1 extra attack this round to aim.  Gain a +? bonus to the attack or, or the damage.  You may choose after you roll, but before effects are applied if you wish to add the bonus to the roll  (To make sure it does something for you!).

Anyway, that's my thought!  Good luck on building your class!

I think you need to rework or ditch the "half Perception mod" bonus. You're double-dipping the character proficiency bonus for that, which will yield some massive bonuses if min-maxed. Even at level 11 this seems insanely broken: +15 or better to hit with advantage on every shot, +10 or better to hit if you use the Sharpshooter -5/+10 damage, still with advantage, thereby hitting with +20-21 damage each time... how could this not be vastly superior to any other build, melee or ranged, at lvl 11 and up?
