Let's look at some typical damages that some party members will be doing at level 8.
Rogue = 5d6 + 5 = 22.5 Sorceror = 2d10 + 5 = 16 Great Weapon Fighter = 13.33 Great Weapon Barbarian = 14 Warlock = 1d10 + 1d6 + 5 = 14 Ranger = 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d6 + 5 = 17.5 (assuming collosus slayer hit, if not then 13) Great Weapon Fighter with -5/+10 = 23.33
Assume for a moment that all bard inspirations cause misses to turn into hits on the Great Weapon Barbarian or Warlock. That comes out to 210 damage.
Now assume all cause misses to turn into hits for the rogue, that's 337.5 damage. Considering you will be using it to help out different allies the ability will likely fall somewhere inbetween 210-337.5 damage. Still thats alot of damage.
Considering that the bard still can get extra attack feature himself and gets full spell casting progression that's a ton of extra damage added on top of it all. In fact it's likely that bardic inspiration may give almost as much damage as a valor bard's 2 attacks would give. |

| #8FrogReaverFeb 26, 2015 9:11:40 | If you use bardic inspiration when a character is 1 away from hitting then bardic inspiration will be guaranteed. On average this situation will come up Once per attack per turn per Ally. If we assume for a moment that we have a 4 person party that means 3 allys. That means per day we will on average have maybe 5 opportunities to guarantee a miss turns into a hit. The 5 is an estimation that assumes 2 characters in the party have multiattack or bonus action attacks.
We will also have about 5 opportunities to turn a miss by 2 into a hit. We have a 87.5% chance for turning a miss by two into a hit. The only thing we cannot roll is a on our inspiration dice. We will also have about 5 opportunities to turn a miss of 3 into a hit. We have a 75% chacne to do so. The only things we cannot roll are a 1 and a 2 on our inspiration dice.
Since we only have 15 inspiration dice we should be able to turn at least about 75% of the 15 misses we can target into hits. Estimated total chance to turn a miss into a hit is 87.5%. |

Sooo yea, using when you need a 3+ seems right. 6/8 = 75%
Which is probably close enough. |

With 3 allies, it will take you 3 rounds to give them each a die. If your Init roll is low, it means someone can't even use it until round 4. If they roll a 'near miss' on turns 1-3 they miss out.
If the plan is to only use it if you miss by 3 or less... that does up the die's effectiveness quite a bit, but lowers its chance of being used. Lets assume the bard gets to go first each round, and lets assume the fight lasts for 4 rounds. The first person he gives it to will have 4 rounds to use it. If a Rogue, there is a 52% chance that the die never gets used, if a fighter, there is a 27% chance it never gets used. **
There is likely a trade off, the BID is more likely to be used by the fighter, but the Rogue's attack will do more damage.... decisions decisions...
There is also a chance that the same PC would get more than 1 chance to use the BID, but only have access to one die. Thereby 'wasting' one of the close calls of the day.
**To be fair, there is a slightly higher chance, since you are more likely to use it on the last attack, even if you miss by 8; but it is also much less likely to work at that point. So I kept the assumption of <=3. |
| (Reply to #18)FrogReaver | Good points.
A few additional considerations: 1. It lasts 10 minutes so there will be many fights where you will be able to use it before the fight occurs once on evey party member.
2. The lore bard subclass can get the same effective result as a reaction.

| #20melloredFeb 26, 2015 12:06:54 | Valor bards can also just use the dice for damage.
15d8 = 67.5 damage. |
