It says in the items list that holy water can be crafted by a Paladin or Cleric, but costs 25g worth of powdered silver to make. It also says that silver costs 5g per pound.

In other words, to make ONE VIAL of holy water, you need FIVE POUNDS of ground-up silver.  How the hell does that work? Where does all the silver go!?

That is...a ridiculously heavy bottle of water to be throwing around...

While silver coins have one tenth the value of gold coins, and so a pound of silver coins (i.e. 50 sp) is equal to 5 gp, it does not follow that silver in any form whatsoever is merely one tenth the value of gold. Silver powder, for example, is not made simply by finding a nugget of silver and grinding it up. It takes a process (usually involving an acid), and so the value of the resulting power takes into account the difficulty of the process itself. The same might be said of a finely worked piece of silver jewelry. In weight it might not be much, but its coin value in gold might be quite high.

So, no, it does not take five pounds of silver to make 25 gp worth of silver powder to make holy water.

Plus, it's not like you're just stirring the silver dust into a jar of water like some kind of Holy Kool-Aid. In fact, it's probably safe to assume that none of the silver actually makes it into the liquid at all. Silver isn't terribly healthy to drink, after all.

Perhaps the silver is used to purify the water and then has to be thrown away because it's used up. Some kind of alchemical reaction whereby the silver combines with all the unholy atoms in the water and is converted to molecules of dross, which you filter out leaving just the holy atoms.

How to get holy water to do damage deamons:

1 get 12 ounces of water.

2 get 5 pounds of silver.

3 craft the 5 pounds of silver into a vial in any way you like/can.

4 drink 10 ounces of water to slake your thirst.

5 pour the remaining 2 ounces of water into your newly created silver vial.

6 bless the vial+water with the apropriate ritual.

7 you now have holy water. put int in an easily accesible pocket

8 find an abomination against your God.

9  recover the vile from your easily accesible pocket.

10 throw the vial agains the vile abomination of EVIL!

Is there any point to waste 25gp, 1hour and spell slot on a 'weapon', which does not use proficiency attack bonus, has generally worse damage, especially if using divine smite by the paladin? Only the range, but is very small. Cleric attacks are a little weaker, but it has more spells and cantrips.
