How would you make Gambit in D&D?

Gambit, the character from X-Men.

My first thought is to go with Warlock, and reskin the throwing cards into the eldritch blast spell.

I wanted to know what you guys thought.

I made Twisted Fate from League of Legends, utilizing the same concept. Reflavored Eldritch Blast to be thrown cards, went Book of Shadows (renamed Deck of Shadows), took the Lucky feat. I went Fiend Pact, but that was for mechanic issues and not flavor. For Gambit's staff, take the Shillelagh cantrip when you go Tome Pact, and use a quarterstaff. That will now run off your Charisma.

Gambit is a ranged attacker, only using his staff when he needs to sneak or when the enemy closes in. So having it mitigates the need for the Warcaster feat. I think the Criminal background should cover his history just fine, I don't think you need any Rogue levels at all. If you were going Blade Pact, maybe, but that assumes b your DM would let you sneak attack with the staff. I'd stay away from Rogue and go pure Warlock here.
