How would you make this character?

For those unaware, this is Thrall.

Closest class to equate to him, normall, would be a Shaman. But Shamans don't exist in 5E... Yet.

So how would you make him?

I've a few ideas, each one I'm torn on. Nothing seems to be "right". Also, I'd like to avoid multiclassing as much as possible.

Tempest Cleric

Nature Cleric

Ancients Paladin

Ranger

Half-Orc wielding a Maul

Any thoughts or help in re-creating him in D&D would be much appreciated. Even a homebrewed Shaman class might help, though it's unlikely to meet DM approval.

Half Orc vengeance paladin.  I'd actually give him the tempest cleric deity, and a similar subclass spell group, but I think that's a fair fit.  Give him a few barbarian levels if you'd like.

Forget what he is. What can he do?

Heal, use elemental spells of at least Earth, Fire and Air. Fight a bit.

Sounds like a Druid. You can use a feat or multiclass to gain the use of the Warhammer.

ANYWAYS... Any shot of somehow making Thrall as a half-caster? I believe that narrows it down to Ranger or Paladin. Thrall's handled plenty of people with the hammer before, without having to resort to his Far Seer powers.

I think that I called it a Warhammer because he uses it one-handed sometimes.

Remember that Thrall is pretty high level in D&D terms, which would allow him to use it effectively even while being a full-caster like Druid or Cleric. He is acknowledged as one of, if not the, most powerful elementalist on Azeroth, on a par with high-level pure casters, which doesn't seem to gel with being a half-caster.

Well here's the issue I'm having.

Thrall himself has been different things. To make him all these things proper, he'd have to be Level 35 and have multiclassed three or four times. However, most notably, he's been two things:

1. Far Seer. He hurled spells like Chain Lightning and summoned Spirit Wolves. That points to Druid, IMO.

2. They changed that to Shaman in WoW, making them Melee DPS with the ability to heal a bit. That points to Paladin, IMO.

(I know Far Seer is an advanced Shaman in lore, but I'm speaking of class playstyle)

However... There's already a Half-Elf Ancients Paladin in my group...
