I can't create a normal character!

I am looking to create my first character for the Adventure's League and I just can't create and enjoy a stock character type.

Some of the ideas that have popped into my head is:

a female Tiefling sorceror with gold or bronze draconic blood on a search to find out more about her draconic father,

a Halfing or Woodelf barbarian monk (provided the unarmored movement and AC bonuses stack so that I could get my AC from DEX, WIS and CON, along with +20 movement,

a paladin of Sune who uses medium armor and and plays more like playboy/bard giggilo than the traditional paladin. Not sure what oath or weapon would go best though possible rapier or warhammer with the one handed style.

In the two rolemaster games we are doing one of my characters is a swashbuckler type of rogue that has memories intruding on his present life of being alive during an ancient time as a different class and the GM is having the past come back to haunt him like his undead ex-wife! The other character is a cleric trained as a monk that fights for peace, love and harmony and is kind of naive about the way the word really works. The character is based off of Taylor Swift. Trying to fit in some performance skills when I can.

If anyone has some different ideas or ideas how I can take one of the concpets I have and run with it, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

A monk who has accomplished control over the brute beast part of his body, now has been sent to gather expereince of the world as part of eventually gaining wisdom.

"Robin Hood in the making" - some political figure unlawfully / unjustly took away the life and lifestyle you thought you were born into.  Until you acquire the ability to take it back, you are living the travelling adventurer's life.

The sorcerer concept you mention sounds good.  Variant: the character looks mostly-human but is mechanically a tiefling.  As she learns more about her powers, she will change...

I do not think the monk and barbarian Unarmored bonuses will stack with each other.  Too many other things don't stack that used to...

OP:

For the life of me I cannot get my head around your complaint. What is it you are asking exactly? Because all three concepts you presented can totally be done.

Was this a trick question? Or satire perhaps?

I missed the movement stacking, but was aware of the different requirements. Where is it in the PHB or AL rules about this?

I guess I didn't convey it good enough in my OP, but I don't like to make generic characters. I watched a group play the game a few days ago and the GM was basically going, "Fighter 1 it is your turn, fighter 2 its now your turn."

It is part of the reason why I don't like to play pre-gen characters.

I like to create unique characters that are far from the norm like a paladin that isn't the typical plate and shield wearing holy knight.

I was looking for more ideas to put into the concepts I had and possibly more concepts I have not thought of yet for unique yet viable characters. Like my idea for the monk/barbarian will not work the way I hoped it would and probably would not be worth doing just for the increased movement speed.

Some ideas I or friends have played in the past:

A Wizard with 15 or 16 strength and 10 INT. Uses a staff more as a weapon than an Arcane Focus. Found out he was magic, because he used Mage Hand once. He's a simple farm boy who hates people who lie to him

A dragonborn or half-orc (though I used a Goliath in aprevious edition) Assassin. He plays dumb, speaks in a silly voice (HEY YOU GUUUUUYS!), and pretends to be a barbarian, complete with a greataxe. But when the sun sets...Seriously, though, step 1 of being a high-class assassin is no one knowing or suspecting you're an assassin...

A barbarian/rogue that dual-wields rapiers. Because you can sneak attack using STR if you want. You can even go grappler so you can stick 'em close and stick 'em good!

A halfling monk who isn't actually a monk, he's just incredibly (un)lucky. So when he dodges blows or causes people to go prone, he doesn't do it on purpose at all. He just flails around wildly hoping to escape or not get hit, and his pursuers always end up on the ground, injuring each other for some reason...Must be that 7-leaf clover he found...

A Drow Cleric of the Light. "Yeah I can't see well in the sunlight, so what?!"

That should get you started on the right path Though it sounds like you wanted a collaboration more than actual ideas...

Reskinning spells and powers to fit your concept is always great. So long as if mechanically they work the same, having them appear different is a great way to make your character stand out. Be descriptive and make everything unique.

"The cultist clasps his hand around the pendant hanging from his neck and closes his eyes. You hear him whisper a something softly and his body starts to radiate a soft red light. The light coalesces around his head and shoulders to take the form of a large red dragon's head! The beast's jaws open and it spits forth a giant gout of flame at you, give me a Dexterity saving throw."

A bit more interesting and memorable than saying, "the cultist casts Sacred Flame at you." Don't you think?

I think in many ways, this editions lets you break molds for sterotypes.  My main character right now is a Halfling Vengance Paly of Mask (CN) that grew up as an Urchin.  He grew up on the streets harrassed by the town guard and those that had "legal" rights over him.  He was taken in by the local Thieve's Guild priest (Trickery Cleric) and taught him the ways of Mask.  His Oath of Vengance is againgst those who through the guise or morality or slavery hold down others whild hiding behind the "Law".  He is actually protective of those of his party, but usually sees keeping himself at peak performance the best way to assure the parties survival (Aid to me, and two lowest HP party members, lay on hand self first, then others as needed, will gudgenly give up smites for Cure Wounds).  He has a great intimidate "Just note, when we see eye to eye, I still have kneecaps."
