I'm pretty ne to the game and I'm looking into combining the Wizard and tempest Cleric into a Lightning slinging badass.  I've already figured taking first lvl wizard thenat least 6 levels tempest cleric but I'm not sure what to do from there.  Starting Wizard gives me acces to among other things Shocking Grasp and Witch Bolt and proficience in Int and Wis which seems alot more useful than Wis Cha to me unless im overlooking something huge in the cleric that depends on it.  Witch Bolt combined with the Tempest Cleric's Channel Divinity to make it do max damage is point for point one of the most damaging single target attacks per level in the game, cast from a lvl 9 slot it deals 108 damage which from what I've read so far is monsterous.  and Schocking Grasp combine with thunderbolt strike is frankley gonna feel so good purely from an RP standpoint and it could add tons of utility.

 

I want to make Shocking Grasp into my Primary form of attack instead of standard weapon attacks but from what I've been able to figure it will be less damage effective than a melee weapon because thunderous strikes makes weapon attacks better.  Is there any feats or class features of any classes i havent already mentioned or even items that can close the gap between shocking grasp and thunderous strikes melee weapon attacks?

 

My plan right now is to bring this guy to lvl 19 tempest cleric because I don't want to loose an ability score increase and i dont want to go to under 17 because i really really really want to fly.  But I'm torn because if i go 5 lvls in wizard i can get both Haste and Lightning Bolt which fit my theme perfectly.

 

What do you guys think any advice to make me a human bug zapper?

Jun 22, 2015 18:51:12 		Look into the Unearthed Arcana articles for the Stormborn Sorcerer and the Favored Soul. Favored Souls gets to add a Cleric domains spells to the Sorcerer list and two attacks at lv6, while Stormborn get nice bonuses for lightning and thunder spells.
