The author made a comment that validated my feelings on this ability. It seems that a better crowning ability could have been picked for someone who has achieved "self perfection". As RAW, it is very limited in use. Even the playtest's Perfect Self appeared much more appropriate and useful. With this, a 20th level monk simply regains 1 Ki point a round. This at least allows the 20th level Monk to have 1 Ki point at all times. Any thoughts?
ps. IMHO It seems that in threads like this, half the posters just say "the rules are perfect, no need for change". Perhaps I can get better responses than this? |

There's just a lot of high level stuff like "you regain X, Y, and Z after an hour or a short rest!" I kept thinking that Wizards must have playtested these abilities in some marathon dungeon crawls where every character needed insane sustainability. But that isn't how most of my adventures have worked, either as a player or a DM, and regardless of level.
Sadly, I'm a strict RAW kind of DM, just to try and keep things less arbitrary for my players and to set expectations/consistency. So I would just encourage them to multiclass away from abilities like that and into better stuff.
But house ruling alternate abilities is awesome depending on your group. So I strongly encourage other players/DMs to do that when they see a bad ability that needs improvement. |

At first you'd think a fighter's extra attack would be good, but if you're using finesse or ranged weapons, Rogue 9 is more intersting than those 9 levels or fighter, and does more damage (increasing every other level too rather than nothing, nothing, extra attack). |
