Infinite Wishes

Think i found a RAW way to get infinite wish spells:

1. level 20 Wizard or Bard (Taking simulacrum and wish through magical secrets).
2. Pick up the Epic Boon: Boon of High Magic, you now have 2 level 9 spell slots.
3. Cast simulacrum targeting yourself.
4. Have your clone cast Wish replicating the effect of Simulacrum targeting you.
5. Have each new clone repeat 4.
6. You now how infinite clones of yourself (Except they are missing one level 9 and 7 spell slot).
7. Cast infinite wish spells using the remaining level 9 spell slot.

Disclaimer: Don't do this in an actual campaign, it's just a fun excercise to find ways of breaking the rules.

Surprised that this was possible using just features from the core rulebooks even without magic items. It does require an Epic Boon and how that gets handled is up to the DM. (As a lazy DM, and without any other Epic tier resources, I would let players choose boons as advancement every 30K XP)

but yes, simulacon spam was found a while ago, and you don't need the epic boon.

I think wishing for more wishes is specifically not allowed. The sorts of things you are allowed to wish for tend to be restricted to certain categories.

Wish for the simulacrum to regain it's level 9 spell slot.

Have the simulacrum make a simulacrum of you, ad inifinitum.

At 20th level you have 2 7th level spells. Make a simulcron of yourself. Have the simulcron cast simulcron to make a simulcron of yourself. Repeat ad infinitum. Each simulcron also has a level 9 spell slot. Infinite wishes.

To get the fastest and the mostest Wishes, you'd want a Level 17 Illusionist Wizard with both Simulacrum and Wish prepared. So here's how it works*:

 

Step 1: Use the Simulacrum spell to create a Simulacrum of your Illusionist Wizard.

Step 2: Have the Simulacrum use its Wish for whatever you want (like another Simulacrum).

Step 3: Use the Illusionist's Malleable Illusions* feature (level 6 class feature) to change the Simulacrum into another creature (preferably a non-caster, like a fighter, or a squirrel).

Step 4: Change the Simulacrum into the Illusionist Wizard again. It should now have another 9th level spell slot.

Step 5: Go back to step 2.

 

And there you have it. The most efficient Wish Generator in D&D 5E. Its even capable of working with the Clone Army cheese, though it requires slightly more work.

 

*this relies on only one interpretation from how the poorly worded Malleable Illusions feature works

Wish for a DM that doesn't know that most of these wishes would never work... and if you manage to get that instead of a DM that knows wish doesn't have limitless (or even near-limitless) power, wish for anything and everything.

Stick to the old rules for wishes aging the caster and adjust the penalty for longer-lived races so it remains relevant..  Rule that you only wish away aging that was not caused by wishing and rule that there is a chance that some simulacra's personalities drft away from the original so there is a chance that your pet might not be so willing to do your bidding.

 

I love making the highest level spells have a frisson of risk.  Monkey's paw wishes are amazing fun.

Laws of thermodynamics cannot be said to apply wherein matter & energy can both be created and/or destroyed. 

 

In my setting, the laws of the universe are musical. All of creation can be understood as composite matter/energy waves generated by and conducted by its components. Conflict and discord are inharmonious. The language of creation is a musical staff. 

 

Nobody's figured it out yet, though my dwarves are closer than anyone else. The elves "get it" coincidentally having stumbled on it. The humans live it unaware of it. The players have no idea at all - and nobody had bothered to undertake rigorous study into it - probably bc other stuff that's more fun than cosmology is going on. 

 

Anyhow, no physics. And wishes are changes in the melody.
