Interesting interaction between Grappled and Prone conditions.

For reference from Basic:

Grappled
A grappled creature’s speed becomes 0, and it can’t
benefit from any bonus to its speed.

• The condition ends if the grappler is incapacitated
(see the condition).
• The condition also ends if an effect removes the
grappled creature from the reach of the grappler or
grappling effect, such as when a creature is hurled
away by the thunderwave
spell.

Standing up takes more effort; doing so costs

an amount of movement equal to half your speed. For
example, if your speed is 30 feet, you must spend 15 feet
of movement to stand up. You can’t stand up if you don’t
have enough movement left or if your speed is 0.

So at 5th level, a fighter with the tavern brawler feat could punch an enemy, grapple them as a bonus action, then shove them prone with their second attack, and freely drag them around to boot. Then they have to spend their action to attempt to break free, and 15 feet of their movement to stand up, and either stay adjacent to you, or risk an OA by moving away. If they choose not to break free, their attacks are at disadvantage from being prone.

Seems like an excellent template for a ground and pound build.

You want to splash a level of rogue (bard? feat?) for expertise in athletics.  Possibly 2, because cunning action is just really useful.

Of course, things die to fast for tactics like these to be terribly useful.  Those 2 attacks could be used to kill the thing instead.
