Javelin of Lightning...

Okay, just got back from Gen Con, it was a blast, played in both Epics and at the end of the second(Rage of Demons storyline) I was awarded a Javelin of Lightning. And man did that give me excitement about the possibilities of the direction I'd like to play my character. Since, I'm only 4th level, I thought I might change him up a bit and make him a Priest of Talos. Makes sense right? Then I thought this will be awesome, I'll be pretty descent from the back lines as I can stay back throw it... but that got me thinking... The Dwarven Thrower explicitly stats that the weapon returns to the thrower... this one does not. And unlike 4e, no where does it say magic weapons return to their users(that was one rule I really appreciated)

So, I guess what I'm asking is, in the Adventurers League do magical thrown weapons all return to their users?

Or am I in danger of losing my one and only precious magical weapon each and every time I toss it at a big bad guy?

I know there is the possibility of a work around by multi-classing into Eldritch Knight, but I'd rather not do that if it is not necessary.

Multiclassing Warlock or Eldritch Knight are your best bets. I think the only other alternative is hope someone doesn't run off with it after you've thrown it.

Warlock can't have their Pact blade be a magic weapon. Or was the limit a sentient magic weapon, or artifacts?

Thanks guys, wish they would've thought about this when creating these weapons. It just makes sense that they would return to the owner. I'll probably just pick up a few levels in Eldritch Knight if this is how it was intended...

It's how it was intended.

Yeah, I gave out a Javelin of Lightning to our group a while back. And the Eldritch Knight grabbed it and gets a lot of use out of it.

A Warlock could make the javelin their Pact Weapon because it's not an artifact or sentient. It wouldn't be the best idea though because they use an action to summon it where an EK uses a bonus action.

You can always 'regenerate' your Javelin by simpy holding on to the cert.  The next DM won't know if the last DM tried to steal your Javelin.

If I was an AL DM, I'd allow it to return automatically ... whenever the lightning bolt is on.

I'd also try having a monster throw it back at your group, if you (player) looked like you were about to flip out over losing it.  You (character) are after all offering him free ammunition...
