#1 danixxal_DM Mar 11, 2015 21:45:32	hey there, so im new to dnd5e.. played 4th for about a year and a half. and so my questions are:   do spells/weapons add anything to the damage roll ( not talking about stuff added from a feature im asking like if say i was useing a warhammer, would i add str/dex to the damage roll. or if i were to cast something liek firebolt. would i add my spell casting mod to the damage aswel.)   when asking to do somehting in game. do i ask what skill i should roll or do i have the dm tell me( like if im searhcing a room for a key. do i say " can i roll investigation to find the key" or do i say " id like to search carefully for the key" and have the dm say " roll an investigation check")   and also. how the heck dose perception/passive perseption work and what do i add to passive perception to make it a thing.        now befor anyone asks.. my dm i new to this aswell.  just kinda picked up the game a while ago so im wondering what to do and he dosent really know.    anyway thanks for the help!   -danixxal
