Believe I'm going to be starting a campaign soon. I'll be playing a Ranger/Barbarian  I kind of want to dual wield 2 battle axes. I was wondering what race, and what combination of the 2 classes people would start out at if they were level 3.

Maybe

Barb 1 / Ranger 2   (Level 3) Rage & RAnger Spells/Fighting Style

Ranger 5               (Level 4-6) On to two attacks

Barb 3                   (Level 7-8) Bear Totem Warrior for Tankiness

Past this I might just pick what feels right. Idk

The question for this post is where would people start and how would they progress?

Also have the same question for Druid / Monk

Maybe

Monk 1 / Moon Druid 2

Would like some ideas past this.

I'd start as barbarian:

- gives you 2 more hp

- con save

- you get the extra ranger skill when going ranger

human, variant, feat: dual wielder

Str 16 (+1 from human/var)

Dex 14 (+1 from human/var)

Con 12

Int 10

Wis 13

Cha 10

 (I don't like penalties... it's a save some day!)

hp: 13 (meh...)

AC: 16 (scale)

attacks: 2 battleaxes, +5/1d8+3, +5/1d8

Then...

either get to barbarian 5 for the extra attack,

or take 2 levels ranger for fighting style and spells (hunter's mark!).

Why are you going with ranger?

a couple things... AC is 17 (Scale = 14, Dex = +2, Dual Wield Feat = +1) and since he is starting at Level 3, I would go Barb 1 and then Ranger 1-3

Note that two-weapon fighting uses your bonus action and hunter's mark also uses your bonus action (switching between targets) and does not last through your Rage (Concentration spell). You will do more damage by trying to hit with your bonus action than you will by using hunter's mark (until you start getting multiple swings with your attack action & start facing enemies with enough HP to last a few rounds).

With your Bonus Action already used for extra swings and Rage taking out your concentration, your spell slots will be used primarily for healing and talking to animals and the like... not in-combat casting. I would consider getting your awesome Level 3 Ranger traits, then switching back to Barbarian for Level 2-5. Actually, I would probably stick to Barbarian for the rest of the levels. Ranger Level 2 spells aren't great and Level 5 Extra Attack doesn't stack with the Barbarian Extra Attack...

Thanks for the advice bros. Yeah my biggest concern was the bonus action economy. So yeah I think that would leave open to use my spells for more RP and healing, instead of hunters mark.
