| #1Andar89Feb 18, 2015 4:26:18 | I've just started playing a ranger who suffers from a curse which has temporarily been supressed. (I plan on using the sorcerer's wild magic as the curse.)
I've been given the advice that I should level to at least 3 with ranger before putting any levels into sorcerer; eventually ending up with a 16/4 or 17/3 balance. (though I'm still undecided on wether she'll be a ranger with added sorcery or vice-versa.
Now, I'm not entirely sure how I plan to level her up. And was hoping I could get advice from you guys about recommended spells to take and ways to play the character. Now, I know this multiclass is likely not considered an optimal one but I liked the idea of it from an RP perspective.
So, any advice on planning out her progression would be greatly appreciated. How many levels would you put in each, and what spells would you pick?
How would you play this character?

My recommendation is to get level 5 before multi-classing. Focus any sorcerer spells you pick up on things that don't rely on a stat. Min your charisma and focus on the range attack. You will have a lot of time to decide on how far to take each class as you play so don;t worry about it now. |
| (Reply to #2)Andar89 | Ok thanks for responding, My only real concern is that I dont want to cripple my damage dealing potential in the upper levels compared to the rest of the party. Our DM decided on a point buy system and I ended up with the following after racials etc:
STR - 10 DEX - 16 CON - 12 INT - 11 WIS - 14 CHA - 14
As you said I've focussed on dex, for bow damage but I still wanted to be fairly competent when it comes to both ranger spells and sorcerer spells.
I dont currently have access to the phb (a party member is borrowing it), But what are the spells I'd have access to like? Would it be worth putting more than 4 into sorcerer so that I get access to some of the better sorcerer spells at the cost of ranger ones... sorry for all the questions, but this is my first character outside of LMOP. |

your sorcerer spell take mostly buff spell like shield, jump, spider climb, misty step, invisibility etc... very usefull spell that will hepl you and your allies greatly, but won't be hindered by your lower Charisma. Then IIRC most of your Ranger spell to boost your attack (like ensnaring strike) require concentration, so try to avoid combat concentration spell (like Haste) since if you concentrate on Haste, you cannot concentrate on ensnaring strike (for example) without loosing Haste, but out of combat utility (like Invisibility) is good.
Reach Ranger level 5 first to gain your second attack. This second attack is a HUGE bonus. |

You get to hide, dash, or disengage as a bonus action. Much better than the ranger's ability. You can also get sneak attack. All for only 2 levels in Rogue. |
