Recently I've been trying to think up some new character concepts.  I have gotten stuck in a rut of mostly only being able to think of halfling or gnome intepretations of movie or comic book characters.  Maybe this thread will die with no responses, but at least I'll get these demi-humans out of my head!

1. Ironman - Rock Gnome Cleric 1/Warlock X wearing plate and shield, eldritch blasting from hands, levitate at will

2. Batman - Halfling Shadow Monk

3. Indiana Jones - Gnome Lore Bard

4. Sweeny Todd - Halfling Rogue with proficiency baking who turns his kills into pies (this is actually a current character)

5. Hulk Hogan - Half-orc monk

I took the old amnesia concept and gave it a twist with one character. He is slowly remembering a past life. One where he was the evil wizard some thousands of years ago. Too bad his past will not stay buried. Its crawling out of the grave and coming after him.

- A skill monkey with little DEX or STR (and so can hardly attack).  Maybe a Bard so you can still magic spell the enemy?

- I want to play a mechanical Rogue but I behave like a Paladin: stands forth like Superman and challenges the enemy to a duel.

- CN or CE and interprets this as "I always betray the rest of the party - somehow - when the fighting is done."  (Sign of a Disfunctional Player)

- Barbarian build with exactly ONE proficiency: "HULK SMASH !"

- Any character concept that has not been thought through or tied together, but was assembled based on maxing out some feature.

- Supposed to be a Scout but does not know when to Stealth away from overwhelming trouble.

- Designed to take advantage of some feature that requires party cooperation and planned-out setup beforehand (such as Assassin), will not consider any other form of tactical planning.

- "I picked up this character as a pre-gen, what does it do?"

- Storm (X-men) - Wizard (or Sorcerer?) with all the Lightning spells you can find, and a selection of Push effects.

- Classic CE Half-Orc Barbarian, refuses to find a copy of Primal Power and read the fluff essays on other "barbarian" cultural possibilities.

A character that only uses items and their actions. He carries a lot of them.

This would be the miniature used: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/pack/latest/77141

Divine rager. Choose a battle god(or one with a strong sense of beating down an enemy) and have at it. Bahamut, mordian, bane, kord, tempest....lots fit the bill

Noxious:

- Character concept requires many m/c's (above L2 each) to work and is barely playable (underwhelmingly ineffective) until multiple key features are gained, but has one (and only one) awesome shtick at L20.  Begin play at L1.

- Character stats were "rolled randomly" (but no witnesses) and never seem to be the same from one session to the next.  Also nothing less than 11 on Day One of play.

- Player brings in a character but has not bothered to read the rules explaining how the class's signature mechanism works.

- Player interrupts descriptions by saying "I use Perception on the room/hallway/cave/path; I rolled X" every time the party moves forward, instead of talking with the DM ahead of time and saying "My character is a Scout, my Passive Perception is X, and as s.o.p. I look around before I enter a new room or hallway.  I can give you a Post-It if you need the reminder."

Flavorful:

- Character is the fulfillment of a divine Prophecy, and also a secret Avatar of the god in question.  So if nothing else, he knows what he is supposed to accomplish in the end.

- Pseudo-Invoker: has a direct connection to the gods, and a purpose to achieve.  Mechanically, pick class to fit the spell list wanted.

- Primal powered "Voice in the Wilderness" operating near a corrupt (or corrupted) society.

Amusing:

- Mechanically competent character, but played as superstitious and speaks like Unlucky (the opposite of the PHB feat) is his family's curse.

- Pseudo-Avenger of the goddess of Love, designed to quicksand the enemy under status effects rather than DPR them.  Wide-ranging imagination recommended.

- Player has brought along a page of pithy quotes to back up character's background trait "I am a font of (misquoted) wisdom."

My next character will be a Monk-lock. All the class features and play of a monk, but re-fluffed to be a warlock type.

The idea is that he trapped a demonic spirit in speciallly enchanted inks, and tatoos made with those inks transform his body and give him powers. I'm calling it the "Path of the Claw"

Unarmored Defense: skin takes on the properties of leathery demonic hide.
Martial Arts: fingers turn to claws to simulate the damage and a barbed, prehensile tail adds attacks.
Flurry of Blows: channeling the rage of the demonic spirit for a furious attack.
Patient Defense: not really sure yet
Step of the Wind & Slow Fall: Demonic wings, not quite big enough to fly, but big enough to aid movement.
Unarmored Movement: Legs gain an additional backwards joint (basically, the feet grow and the ankle turns into a second knee) combined with the wings to allow for faster movement
Deflect Missiles, Evasion: Wing membranes can act as a shield against missiles
Stunning Strike: debilitating poison on the claws

I'll come up with more, I'm sure.

Another idea I had was a Sorcerer with the Charlatan background feature. He was in an adventuring group, and his "fake indentity" was that of a wealthy baron. But in reality, I out-meta the other players because it's the BARON who is real, and the ADVENTURER who is the fake double-life! He just wants to escape high society and fulfill his odd desires...

DM got back to me... he will allow it if I'm willing to accept the role play drawbacks. He also suggested I could change the demonic aspect to a dragon aspect... tattoos done with dyed dragon blood could be cool, and we will be facing dragon cults (but not HotDQ) oh... and the mechanic is "spend ki and bonus action to impose disadvantage on attacks". If I do demonic, I'll call it "Visions of violence: flash visions of future attacks lets you anticipate the attack of anyone you can see". I can have fire breath (sweeping cinder strike), terrible roar (fist of four thunders), fly (ride the wind) and damage resistance (eternal mountain defense).

Amusing Idea: An insane delusionary character who belives that someone is controlling his actions through dice rolls.

A Valor Bard who basically thinks of himself as a fighter and tells that to everyone he meets.

Folk Hero background, but of course the great deed he performed was actually just a story he started spreading about himself.
Every spell he gets would be charm based because he's just a very convincing debater and general good lier.

I think the only instrument he carried was a warhorn.

I like to roll my stats and have this idea if i ever have to megadump a stat (like a 4 or 5) I'll dump charsima and create a filthy stinking ugly half-orc with tourette's syndrome.

Not one for if there are kids around though.

Back in 4e I had an LFR 'Wild-elf Fighter' with a club foot and an eyepatch named 'Verristraz' who spoke with a crappy russian accent.

He was, in fact, a Changling Rogue (Club-foot and Eyepatch were the reasons he didn't have the racial bonus to speed and perception,) and the russian accent as a FLGS convention that all things from Eberon spoke russian. He had a feat (versitile duelist) that allowed him to run about with a two-hander (Bastard Sword in two hands) stabbing people to death.

He was fun.

I also had a literal paranoid-android as Korvosa, my Warforged Wizard (also in 4e.) He was created by Thayan wizards, and was clearly necromantic in construction, so out of self preservation, he always wore a hood and mask, and consistantly lied to his cohorts about being a human. Like Sir Bearington of internet fame, but a little less out-there.

I made an entertainer once for a one-shot game... Sir Robert of Mar Lee. Sang in a Jamaican accent. I think I upset everyone at the table... either they thought it wasn't in "The Spirit of the Game" to make a version of a Pop Culture persona or they just didn't appreciate my singing.

The lesson here: Know the people you are playing with. What you think is an amusing joke could cause offense and ruin someone else's fun.
