I don't get to play much Dnd as I would like and this character is the first time I ever had to roll something up from scratch. It's kinda sad, but I never realized just HOW spoiled I was to teh 4e creator until I looked at my blank sheet and went, well ****.

So here is my first go at a Halfling Ranger with intents on going into the Beast mastery aspect. I saw the thread with Halflings being ableto mount their animal companion and I just HAD to make one. Okay, so Ranger comes with a long bow, but seeing as the bow is likely taller than your standard Halfling, I went with a short bow. I added the Halfling modifers in to the sheet, since I couldn't think of anywhere else to put them. So yea, have at it, I accept any all critisisms that I may recieve.

Hey dude,

Looking over your sheet, here is what I spot:

  • I don't think you added your stat bonuses for being a Lightfoot Halfling. Should have +2 Dex and +1 Cha.
  • I'm not sure where you attack and damage bonuses are coming from. Your short swords are finesse weapons, so you can use your Dex on them. With your increased Dex of 17 (see above point) your attack bonus on both your bow and swords should be +5, with your damage bonus being +3.
  • Since you've picked a Humanoid for your Favored Enemy, you actually get two selections. You should have Goblins, and say, Kobolds, for an example.
  • Since you're only 1st level, you shouldn't have any spells known. Those only show up at 2nd level.

That's what I spotted on a quick look anyway. Have some fun with it! MAking characters is one of the coolest parts of the game!

I think you may have misunderstood how the stats work. As a Lightfoot Halfling you gain +2 to to Dex and +1 to Cha.

So if you have a 15 in Dex, it becomes 17. That becomes a modifier of +3.

And if you have a 10 in Cha it becones 11. So the modifier here is 0.

No need to feel awkward dude, we all start somewhere. My very first game, years and years and years ago, I was confused and asked the DM where the other half of my Ling was.

Yes. I was playing a Halfling.

In addition to the points already mentioned, you are missing a skill proficiency. Ranger grants 3 skills, which from your sheet, would be Animal Handling, Stealth and Survival. Your Background then grants 2 additional skills: Acrobatics (which you've marked down) and Performance (which you haven't).

I'd suggest you consider a slightly different stat array:

Str          11

Dex        15 (17)

Con        13

Int          8

Wis         14

Cha        11 (12)

Strength really doesn't help you at all, if you're using finesse weapons. It's only even slightly useful for Athletics checks, or the very rare Strength saves. Since you opted for the Entertainer background, a little higher Charisma will help a good bit, especially if you have the Performance skill. Maybe you're an entertainer that's terrible at his job, but I'm not going to assume that.

This array gives you the ability to hit 18 in your main stat and boost your HP at lvl 4. You'll probably never need to touch Int, Wis, or Cha again, and you could potentially raise Str to 12 if you really wanted to.
