I just rolled up a dwarf life cleric for a game I'm playing and he ended up with 5 int, and 16 wisdom.

I'd like to have fun roleplaying this but I don't want to insult anyone or ruin things for others.  And just so you know the rest of the stats , 12 str, 7 dex, 16 con, and 11 cha.

Any suggestions?

My first reaction was to make this guy like "Hodor".  Another was to make him do "stupid things", but then I realized thats genearlly more low wisdom behavior.  Lastly, I'm not sure how to portray good insight while talking like someone with 5 int.

I think of wisdom as intuition and common sense and intelligence as book learning and formal reasoning. So your character is probably illiterate and very literal (doesn't understand sarcasm or metaphor) and needs everything spelled out for him. He is not a strategist or planner.  But he has great instincts...knows what to do because he feels it in his gut, even if he can't explain how or why it works. He might have a forest gump sort of approach to the world....he understands emotions and good/evil very well...often better than the "smart people" in the movie and he does't lie to himself the way they do. Maybe your character doesn't sweat the small stuff and seems to really understand what is important in life.

Int 5? Oh my.

To get a rough idea, that is hill giant and ogre-level int. Giant Apes are better at puzzle-solving that you. Even Orcs and Trolls fink you is stoopid.

I like where this is going.

Very litteral. Very "innocent", with a strong sense of right and wrong.  A devout follower of Dumathoin , keeper of secrets. He speaks with simple one syllable words, and is fond of pantamiming to get his point across, and like winnie the pooh, he comes to the correct conclusions with the wrong logic.

Don't forget you *can* communicate though, you are 2 INT above the minimum to speak a language (so there *are* people who can speak that are less intelligent than you); and with 11 Cha you probably don't come off as obviously disabled Hodor-style.

Following the Standard Deviations of 3d6 VS Stanford-Binet IQ; your IQ would be somewhere around 60; Moderately Impaired using old Lexicon terms.  Put into perspective that most Americans would be familiar with; these would be students who would be eligable for Special Education services based on their Intellectual Disability alone.  However, they would likely be in attendance for many regular education classes (with supports, assuming no other factors involved); so think of the obviously mentally impaired guys that were still mostly mainstreamed in your schools growing up and that would be a close analog on IQ levels alone.

Of course, INT scores are not IQ per-se; and to some degree other factors (Education, Memory, etc) can also be in play... an uneducated character with a horrible memory but who is otherwise 'bright' could be represented with a low-INT and a reasonable WIS.

He'll read the mood but not know the root of it. He might recognize signs, but not put 2 and 2 together. He'll know when someone's unnerved, but not necessarily why. He'll catch the glint of metal upon the hill, but he won't know it's likely the pikes of the men pursuing us, or why we were pursued when we left court.
