MAD Support?

Hey guys, I recently joined a campaign, and I had some character ideas, but they wouldn't really work with the current party due to duplicating classes or setting issues. So I'm kinda back to square one. The party has a few melee, and a single damage oriented caster so far, so I feel like a support character would be a good fit, and it's a role I enjoy playing.

That said, I rolled for stats and got very good ones, with 4 high scores (15, 16, 16, 16). I was thinking of doing a straight lore bard just because they seem like a fun character, but I wouldn't really be making any use of having all those good stats. The plus side is I would be able to do a lot of things 'okay' just from raw stats, which seems bard-like.

Anyway, was wondering if anybody else had any interesting ideas for making some really good stats work for me while still being able to fill a support role in the party. The party is mostly melee, so going primarily ranged would be nice just to mix it up, but really just looking for ideas and inspiration.

bards are fine, either lore or bow valor.
druids or clerics could also work.

Specifically, with a bunch of good ability scores and Jack of All Trades at 2nd level, you will have pretty good odds with any skills you aren't trained in. Take training in Athletics and the Dexterity skills (should be possible to get all three with the right background) and have high Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Assuming you didn't roll too low on the last ones, you should be looking at anywhere from +2 to +5 for any Ability (skill) check you make. Even if someone else is better at the skill, helping out still grants advantage, and you'll be able to help out pretty much all the time.

Yeah I liked that aspect of the bard, I'd be able to have high INT at least to be a good know-it-all. The other stats are 12's, so totally workable. Maybe I'll look at CHA/DEX/INT/CON for my high stats. While we're on the bard, are there any good options to use up a lore bard's bonus action? Reaction seems sort of spoken for, but I don't have enough experience in 5e to really know what my bonus action options are.

Thanks for the help so far!

Well, you could dual wield light thrown melee weapons. An extra attack when you aren't actively buffing or spellcasting is nifty.

Healing Word is a bonus action healing spell you can pick up.

Not sure about others offhand, but those are solid options.

Yeah Spiritual Weapon is an old favorite of mine from 3e. Way too many options for those spells at level 6, though! Bless is certainly tempting, and Conjure Animals seems fun. I'll have to take a long look at my options when it comes up. Good call on grabbing some bonus action spells, though.

I'll have to think about a cleric dip. Leather seems classier, and that level where you're 'that guy' without a new level of spells might suck. Great pros, as well, though.
