Hey guys.

For the upcoming campaign i'll be playing in this summer i was thinking of playing a doctor (with a creepy plague doctor aesthetic). So far i think i'm going for a rogue with expertise in medecine. the character is human so that allows me to get the healer feat which is an amazing coincidence. I also like the idea of making him a little bit germophobic, should make for some fun moments.

So the purpose of this thread is to collect ideas about how to create this character both in terms of mechanics and concept. is rogue my best option for this concept? do you have any ideas for interesting personality traits? i would love to hear them!

Definitely rogue or bard for expertise.

I'd probably go with rogue, using a scalpel or something similar as a dagger. Probably Arcane Trickster, for an extra hand to use during surgery. You can reflavor spells to be more doctor-y; I'd snatch up Poison Cloud and Sleep and treat them as some kind of anesthetic.

I think bard could work if you make yourself more of a "body snatcher," using your charisma to manipulate or trick people, and throw them off your trail, while in the shadows you steal (or..."make") bodies so you can study medicine in a world that really doesn't like that.

I would look at multiclassing wizard, just to see if there are any refluffable spells you're interested in.

The assassin works best because of the ability to create multiple false identities, I think, based on your description. Guild Artisan: Apothecary gives more flavour as a healer and would let you add herbalist kit proficency to go with medicine proficiency and healer feat. It also gives you an avenue for a political or economic power resource in the campaign. It also gives proficiency in the poisoners kit for your anaesthetics and the extra damage abilities can be anatomical knowledge flavour.

Personally, I'd run with Way of the Shadow Monk, picking up the Healer feat.

Because then, he can be both a Doctor AND a Ninja!

Wouldn't you need to be a chronomancer if you wanted to be The Doctor? On a more serious note, I found that a necromancer made for a pretty good doctor.

Make a human, give him the sage or soldier background and the healer feat, make sure he doesn't have any of that stupid old world alternative medicine healing spells, and you're done. I would go wizard, arcane trickster, or eldritch knight because doctors are supposed to be smart and even though medicine triggers off wisdom, the flavor will match better with a high int character. Besides, with the healer feat, you will feel plenty doctor-ee and not really make many medicine rolls.
