| #1SwrdsingerDec 11, 2014 23:55:16 | So, I've only glanced at the new DMG, and love it in general. But I have a quibble; was anyone else annoyed that all of the good magic weapons are swords? I realize that only a very crotchety DM would dissalow a Vorpal axe, but RAW doesn't it kindof seem like all of the polearm aficionados are getting screwed? (Then again, can anyone think of an example of a fabled magic Halberd, or wha have you?) |

| #4TherosDec 12, 2014 4:11:13 | There's no reason you can't apply a sword enchant to a axe or halbred, any good DM should take his players combat style into account. |
| #5ElfcrusherDec 12, 2014 8:11:35 | I'll just say that just about every single thread in these forums could be addressed with either (or sometimes both) of the following solutions: 1) Houserule it 2) Refluff it
And yet we post here anyway because we have strong feelings about the game. If we were just going to houserule/refluff everything, there would be no point discussing it.
Therefore, when somebody has a complaint or criticism or question it is disrespectful to dismiss their opinion by telling them to houserule/refluff. |

I just don't have my copy handy to find the quote. |

| #9guachiDec 12, 2014 12:43:56 | I just like the irony of a poster named "Swrdsinger" complaining there were too many swords.
I was less annoyed then simply finding it odd. It's not like swords for the most part being the best isn't part of D&D, I was more expecting more magic items for other weapon types (any bludgeoning weapon, for example) |
| #10SwrdsingerDec 14, 2014 16:34:08 | I'm a sword fighter IRL, i've been planning on playing a Dane-axe toting paladin, just for yucks. I didn't mean to complain; the last time I played D&D was on the 3.5 days, when I hung out on the optimization boards; people tended to be more persnickety about the RAW.

| #13ElfcrusherDec 14, 2014 21:16:57 | Getting back to the OP's point (and the title of the thread) I actually sort of like the irony that the two minmax weapon choices (polearm and crossbow) are underrepresented in the magic item table.
Take that you munchkins! (Said in the spirit of friendly jesting.) |
