I wanted to create more of a sneaky ranger who went into battle alongside or mounted on his wolf companion. His main focus would be mounted archery, although fighting in melee with his wolf is nothing to sneeze at.
Anyhow I decieded to remove the fighters COMBAT SUPERIORITY, and maneuvers, and replace it with some sort of Sneak Attack progression. I have yet to balance it but at first glance I thought progressing it half as much as rogues might be a good place to start?
Considering I get an animal companion (beastmaster is already considered a weak option), and a second attack at 5th level, full Sneak attack progression seemed overpowered.
I really liked their addition of poultices so I decieded to keep that feature at level 3.
To try and replace some of the damage and i'm losing out on from on spells, I thought i'd add Assassinate at level 6, and volley at 13 (level 11 Hunter feature)? These seems very theamatic, and would help with the loss of things like Lightning arrow, Conjure Animals / Woodland Being, and most importantly Swift Quiver.
I also added Death Strike at level 17, i'm not sure if this is out of place or is too much, but I'd like some opinions. |

1st - Favored Enemy, Natural Explorer 2 - Fighting Style, Sneak attack (half progression) 3 - Beastmaster Archetype, Poultices 4 - ASI 5 - Extra Attack, 2d6 SA 6 - Favored Enemy, Natural Explorer, Assassinate 7 - Beastmaster Feature 8 - ASI, Land's Stride 9 - Natural Antivenom 10 - Natural Explorer improvement, HiPS, 3d6 SA 11 - Beastmaster Feature 12 - ASI 13 - Volley 14 - Favored Enemy Improvement, Vanish 15 - Beastly Coordination, 4d6 SA 16 - ASI 17 - Death Strike 18 - Feral Senses 19 - ASI 2- Foe Slayer, 5d6 SA.
What do you all think? |

Call Natural Allies at lvl 13 and some healing mechanic for your beast at lvl 17 can help you round up the class instead. Beastmaster is considered a weak option by some, there is hardly a consensus on the matter, but a good fix is to have the beast continue with a given command in subsequent turns without the ranger spending an action after the first one. |
