Is the level range listed on the new fifth edition modules A "recommended range"? Meaning, if the range is 1–7... then characters carried over from the starter kit who are at level 4 could start this module with their existing character? Or does that 1-7 indicate that players would need to begin at level 1 and get to be level 7 while playing this module?
Thanks! |

If you are starting at Level 4, you can either skip the earlier parts of the adventures, or adapt them to make them more challenging, for example by adding some extra monsters to the encounters, or substituting tougher monsters for the ones listed. If a module says 1-7, it will mean that the experience points available will be around the number you need for 4-5 characters to go up six levels but you can change that by changing the monsters so that it works out for 5-8, say.
Experience will tell you how tough to make encounters so that your players are challenged without being overwhelmed and frustrated on the one hand, or bored and uninterested on the other. We can't tell you that, because it depends on your players. If you have played through the starter set adventure with them, you will pretty much know that by now.
Good luck |
