I have a Monk that is currently level 3.  He's a pious Monk and is dedicated to Torm.  I want to have him multiclass into Fighter in order to show the more fighter-y side of Torm.  However, I cannot come up with a good in-game reason to abandon learning to be a better Monk.

So, what reason would a Monk have for learning to be a Fighter?

Don't. Monks are ample Fighter-y. They get Extra Attack, just like a Fighter. They get manuevers (Open Hand), just like a Fighter. Hell they can be more agressive in the early levels than a Fighter.

Well, it really shouldn't take much of a reason; fighting is a pretty generic thing to do, and it makes perfect sense for a monk to be interested in concentrating more on fighting.

OTOH, I would also advise to just keep with Monk.... they are pretty 'fightery' already.  You can roleplay the difference, maybe always use a weapon, stuff like that.

A Fighter gets Second Wind at L1.  This helps if you keep getting clobbered by the enemy.  Do you spend a lot of time making friends with people who are trained in Medicine?

Open Hand (possibly all) Monks get something similar.
