If they succeed on the saving throw your speed is reduced to 0 until the start of your next turn. line break no mobile *Ruthless Strikes:* Beginning at the 11th level, when you make a melee weapon attack you can take a -5 penalty to the attack roll to gain a +10 bonus to the damage roll. line break no mobile *Spare None:* |

I like Running Pounce.
And I get that Ruthless Strikes is for some kind of parity with other classes (or some builds of other classes) but I don't like how that mechanic is getting abused so I personally would rather have lack of parity than increase the abuse.

| #5AKillingWordNov 18, 2014 13:17:57 | I think the idea is something along the lines of an animalistic martial artist - someone who takes on the physical aspects of beasts and monsters to be a deadly hand-to-hand fighter.
Tiger Style, taken literally.
I like it. It's kind of like a FF-esque Blue Magic melee combatant.
That is, if I'm right. If I'm not that it's stupid and dumb and I don't wanna play anymore. |

| #7BRJNNov 18, 2014 14:47:57 | This is how a Monk can be a Druid too?
It also sounds like Wolverine: when terribly wounded he goes berzerk until there are no enemies left. |

| #11YunruNov 18, 2014 23:53:02 | Or you could just, y'know, fluff that part, and not have subsubclasses. |

| #13YunruNov 19, 2014 9:08:44 | Doesn't really fit with the rest of the Monk paths. |
| #14cowleymenNov 19, 2014 9:38:06 | Maybe not, but does it have too? Elemental Way gives you lots of options you just pick from, and new ways to spend ki points with a type of mysticsm. Open Palm gives you all your "five fingers of death" you could want. Shadow is Ninja. Animal Styles are just as iconic as any of those |
| #15YunruNov 19, 2014 11:40:45 | Okay then: What'd be the difference? What can different animals offer that isn't covered by the genericness of the subclass or the abilities of the main class? |
| #16AKillingWordNov 19, 2014 15:00:15 | In a word: panache!
If the monk subclasses were analogous to other classes, I would put Open Hand as Fighter, Four Elements as Sorcerer, and Shadow as Rogue.
Savagery? That's your Bard (with a tiny Druid dip).
He's the showman, the exhibitionist. The flashiest of the monks. He's the smug, over-confident Bruce Wayne in a Chinese prison. He's Jim Kelly in Enter the Dragon. He's super-cool, and he knows it. Growing actual claws and fangs is just the cherry on top. |
