Cunning action gives disengage, dash, hide as bonus action
Monk "superior cunning action" give a disengage AND dash AND unhindered movement for no bonus action
How?
Mobility prevents reactions against you when you make and attack against a creature. With extra attack you can disenage from 2 creatures.
Mobility gives +10 movement, Monk starts with +10 movement so when you disenage you move 50 essentially taking you out of range of almost all enemies i.e they would need to dash to reach you which nullifies their turn
By 5-6th level the monk can be virtually untouchable from anything that relies on melee attacks indefinately and still have it's bonus action intact
inb4 "yeah but you had to use a feat" to those I say if you had the option to get a superior version of another classes best ability then its a no brainer e.g. would you sacrifice a feat to get an improved divine smite, or a feat to get enhanced rage, or a feat to get superior action surge etc... |
| #2AaronOfBarbariaJun 02, 2015 4:51:09 | The only thing that sticks out to me here is that you seem to think Cunning Action is the rogue class' "best abilty." That's wild. It's nowhere near on par with divine smite, rage, or action surge - though it is a bit useful, it's far from the "best" that a rogue has to offer. |
| #3cannonfodderJun 02, 2015 7:30:29 | Where are you getting no bonus action? 1 attack w/ mobility and bonus action to use your bonus martial attack, Flurry of blows, dodge, dash, hide? Lvl 7 to get extra attack from monk if you dip rogue for something you probably don't need unless you're planning on hiding each turn. |

Was there a point to your post other than to point out how you like a feat for a monk better than you like a 2nd lvl rogue ability? |

We're not comparing to rouge + Mobile because it's not especially fast, and it's designed to make you more noticeable instead of stealthy. |

This is better than 10 ft of extra movement from being a monk in my opinion especially as the monk has to spend ki to dash as a bonus action. I don't see why you're comparing monk plus mobile to rogue without mobile when you should be comparing it to rogue with mobile. Also although cunning action is an amazing ability rogues have far better abilities as well so the monk is hardly stealing the rogues thunder in any way because not only is the monk using a feat to try and beat the rogue (a feat which the rogue can take too) but it's also imitating a secondary ability and on top of all that still can't use it to hide as a bonus action. I think you may have gotten carried away with the idea of mobile monks out pacing rogues and not thought about the options available to rogues as well. |
