Moon Druid MC'd for Extra Attack

I'm trying to figure out what the most interesting MC options for a Druid 15 / ??? 5 that gives me the benefit of the extra attack class feature. There are some interesting synergies, given that bite/claw/etc count as melee weapon attacks. But I'm curious how others would arbitrate the following:

  • Do attacks in beast form count as strength attacks for the purpose of barbarian class features? (Most beasts have attack bonuses of 2+STR mod)
  • Does unarmored defense stack with natural armor, override it or not apply because of it?
  • Can a monk/druid in beast form make unarmed strikes? I.e. is "the new form physically capable of doing so."

If the answer to the third question is yes, then monk seems like an obvious choice, because it's the only class that I can make use of all of its features, and it gives me something useful to do with bonus actions in wild shape.

Battlemaster Fighter also seems a strong choice, since I can use superiority dice in beast form and I get proficiency with con saves, while Paladin or Ranger will let me still get access to 9th level spells.

And before you cry foul or munchkin, realize what you give up by dipping into other classes:

  • Beast spells
  • 9th level spells (if you go monk, fighter or barbarian)
  • Beast form will be 1-2 CR lower in power than a straight druid

Is it worth it?

Barbarian is an excellent choice as Rage should work in wild form.

Unarmored defense would override natural armor, if it applies. It shouldn't stack as it has a specific formula: 10+dex+con/wis.

Damage resistance from Rage on those wild shapes is better than unarmored defense, as the higher CR beasts in the MM don't have good Dex scores, but they have nice HP totals that you are effectively doubling.

However, I don't think the Extra Attack would necessarily stack with all wild shapes, as some get their own Multiattack action rather than an Attack action. In that case take 3 levels of Barbarian, Bear Totem.

I've been looking for this:

"given that bite/claw/etc count as melee weapon attacks"

Where did you find that?

But it would work with things like the rangers, ensnaring strike. Awesome, thanks very much...I looked everywhere but at the actual attack, with hindsight I feel rather silly now :p
