I just recently started watching Fairy Tail on Netflix, and realized how well he could be represented in 5e as a Variant Human Elemental Monk, taking the ritual caster feat at 1st level to get Happy as your familiar. Then at level 4 you could take Spell Sniper to pickup Produce Flame for Wis based at-will ranged fire attack, and pump Dex/Wis with all ABI's after.   I'm just mildly disasppointed that there aren't enough Ice based elemental monk abilities to also replicate Gray. They could add Fire shield for either of them if it was an option for elemental monks, and Ice Storm is roughly equivalent to fireball. Freezing Sphere is another type swapped higher level fireball, but elemental monks seem limited to 5th level and lower spells, so it would be a bit to strong there. Ray of Frost would be nice to pick up with a feat, but it would be Int or Cha based, so it wouldn't work as nicely as produce flame.
