#1 MykeSchultz Sep 26, 2014 0:53:58	I'm having a hard time understanding the lightfoot halfling racial ability, naturally stealthy. Does anyone care to explain it to me? I know that other creatures grant you cover. Basically, does it mean if I have cover from a creature, then I can attempt to hide action, as if I'm out of sight? As in, I'm hiding behind it, gaining heavy obscurement?   Naturally Stealthy. You can attempt to hide even when you are obscured only by a creature that is at least one size larger than you.   Thanks
#2 Novacat Sep 26, 2014 1:04:44	Normally, you need to be completely out of sight in order to hide. Just having cover won't cut it.   Halflings can use the Hide action even if the only thing obscuring them from sight is a medium-sized creature.

This would require total cover or being heavily obscured, baring any special senses the creature might have.   Natural Stealthy lets you attempt to hide behind a creature obscuring you, if succeful you are hidden.   Herein lies the problem. There is no specific Hidden condition, but the Unseen Attackers and Targets section mentions hiding. So we can extrapolate that a hidden creature is unseen and would follow those rules. Just remember that you can be hidden from some creatures and not hidden from others at the same time.
#7 MykeSchultz Sep 26, 2014 19:06:21	Thanks. yes, I read a few enworld threads about it now, and think I know how I'm going to run it (I guess I should have put thus in the dm section). Namely, if you lose (creature) cover to x, you lose "Hidden" to x. The big part with "Hidden" for me is adjudicating when you do, or don't lose, "Hidden" before you attack. When doing it from actual, normal, obscurement, as opposed to obscurement via Naturally Stealthy, I will probably be more generous, but as far as Naturally Stealthy, if you dont have (creature) cover from x, then you lose "Hidden" from x, thus, so no stepping out from behind creatures and such (granted, there will be circumstances where I'd allow it, given significant distractions. I'm just not too sure what my standard is going to be). Consequently, barring significant distractions, NS will be more so limited to ranged attacks, and the -2 attack penalty for cover. In all, I want the rogue to be able to use Naturally Stealthy, but I don't want him to be able to spam it. Thus, NS may end up being more so a sniper kind-of-thing in my game (but certainly not exclusively). If there is a fatal flaw in my reasoning (it may just be my wording), feel free to let me know (I myself like to see a stickied-like thread dedicated to Stealth and "Hidden," e.g., the "Hidden Club.")
