| #1Kentor_Slowhand_02Apr 28, 2015 13:17:59 | Hey guys, making a human monk, and took the +2 to two stats. My final stats are as follows: Str: 13 Con:12 Dex:16 Int:10 Wis:17 Cha:8 I am having some troubles picking out a suitable feat. I am looking at going with The Way of the Four Elements discipline. I was thinking grappler, charger or mobility. The only problem with grapple is the low strength. Any input here would be appreciated. |

My party needed a back up healer so I picked up the healer feat for my monk, my speed allowed me to get to any party member quickly, and I was hard to hit making me a great frontline healer, also my ability to light things on fire helped with enemy forces.
Charger is not so good for a monk, you are already capable of great movement and you can actually use your bonus action for quite a bit, so I would say no to this.
Mobility would fit well early game a +10 to movement, and you would no longer have to worry about disengaging as any opponent you attack cannot make an attack of opportunity against you, with two attacks at low level, and maxing at 4 with ki points you can move through a group of foes getting in hits and evading retaliation.
Skilled: if you want to provide more of this purpose for the party
Lucky can come in handy for turning around a bad situation
Alert can be a boon with the +5 to init allowing you to go first and mixed with your already strong dex you will most likely go first, that and no surprise can make the difference in a lot of fights.
As I said it really depends on what kind of monk you would like to be |

| #6Kentor_Slowhand_02Apr 28, 2015 14:20:20 | Oops, yes I meant +1 to two stats. I was going to rely heavily on the elemental aspect of the class, so elemental adept it is. |
| #7Kentor_Slowhand_02Apr 28, 2015 14:22:24 | I may go on a totally different tangent and go way of the open fist. Would grappler work with this at all if I focused more on Str over Dex? |

| #9AndrewJOApr 28, 2015 17:23:25 | Charger is a waste, you already have a huge bonus to movement, and at level 5 you'll be able to dash with a bonus action and still make 2 attacks. You can't take Elemental Adept until you have the ability to cast spells. I would take Defensive Duelist or Tavern Brawler. Defensive Duelist lets you spend your reaction to increase your AC by your proficiency modifier against 1 melee attack. Tavern Brawler makes you proficient with improvised weapons and unarmed strikes, so now you can add your proficiency bonus to your attack die for all those extra unarmed strikes you get to make. |

Prior to level 3 you can't take elemental adept as you don't have any spells. After level 3 you can take it as long as you chose at least 1 spell. Elemental attunement, fangs of the fire snake, fist of unbroken air, shape the flowing river, and water whip are not spells and would not let you qualify for elemental adept nor does elemental adept apply to them if you do take it. This makes elemental adept limited for you.
Of the feats listed I would choose mobile. Alert, resilient (wisdom), sentinel, martial adept, or mage slayer are all also interesting. |
| #16supreme_slayerApr 28, 2015 21:13:05 | If you're playing a home game, though, you could always ask your DM if it would still be okay to count your elemental abilities as spells for the purpose of requirements for Elemental Adept. It doesn't seem like a stretch to me. If you're playing AL, then you're unfortunately out of luck unless you want to multiclass etc. |

| #18AndrewJOApr 28, 2015 22:44:31 | I'm going to have to disagree with you on some of those feats WizardV. If you're planning on getting to at least monk level 14, then resilient is a waste of a feat. I'm not saying that it won't be helpful for 13 levels, but once you hit 14 it's just a +1 to Wisdom with no other benefit. I wouldn't take sentinel either, save your reaction for defensive abilities that reduce the damage you take. Don't waste your time with martial adept, it gives you 2 maneuvers but only 1d6 superiority die. If you want to use maneuvers throw 3 levels into fighter, you get more maneuvers, more superiority dice, and those dice become d8. |

| #20BloodscytheApr 29, 2015 11:02:21 | My monk took Alert. Bonus to intiative and never being surprised are both amazing. I found most feats to be lackluster for a monk and since they benefit so much from dex and wis, all my other ASI will be to boost those two stats. |
