| #1Knight_MarshalAug 30, 2015 6:26:35 | I have been thinking for a while about what sort of character to bring into the new AL season pretty much like everyone else ost likely. I had several ideas, most of which not really viable under the AL restrictions and gameplay like the rogue/monk that doesn't become what I want it to until 9th level or the paladin protector in full plate.
I was pretty much just set on making a character that would just survive the new madness rules they are adding from the DMG. That is until I saw this picture. http://community.wizards.com/sites/mtgcommunity/files/Batla76-drow.jpg
I liked the character in the ESO trailers and she looks really good as a Drow. I want to make her. The thing is, I want to only use one weapon and leave the other hand free for magic. I want to be good with the weapon as it will be the primary damage dealer. The spells can be for buffs, debuffs or control.
I thought about a blade pact warlock, but I will not pick up EB. If I need range, I have skill in the hand crossbow. EK, TR, paladin and ranger could also fit along with some sort of combination of them. A ranger/rogue 3/1 with Colossus Slayer and the Dueling style could give me 1d8+2(dueling), 1d8(CS), 1d6(HM), 1d6(SA) when I attack someone who has been wounded, marked and is threatened.
Any ideas on how to make this a cool character with lots of versatility and damage? OK it does sound like I want to make a gish. I can accept that. |

As for this PC.... you could go fighter1/BladelockX, let you pick up some decent armor, create whatever weapon you want. You could also pick up GWF and use a versatile weapon.
I am currently running a Ranger/Rogue and having a blast. I am doing Range, but the concept should work either way. After a lot of diliberation, I decided on Horde Breaker instead of Collosus Slayer.
Though for that picture, I would go Bladelock....

Also, Darkvision will be handy.
P.S. I keep reading the title of this thread as "Nerd Rage of Demons" |

Most tables will continue to play the book adventure once past the Encounters pdf. Plus, there are the Expeditions, which include adventures in Tiers 1-3. There are plenty of opportunities for late-level builds to coalesce in the AL. |

| #7Knight_MarshalSep 02, 2015 9:03:02 | While looking for a minature to go with the character I came across this one which could be tailored as a Drow or even keep it Human. https://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/60164
One of my favorite characters from the Warhammer Online game was the Witch Hunter. How would you make one for 5E?
Paladin, ranger, rogue or maybe a combo of them. I could see vengeance paladin. A rogue would be good for sneaking up and gaining advantage with your attacks. You would probably need some sort of magic to counter the magics of the evil casters, demons and so forth that you would face. |
| #8jaappletonSep 02, 2015 9:58:38 | You can absolutely be a Warlock and avoid EB. They have incentives to be on the front lines. Armor of Agathys, for example. There's tons of Invocations to choose from aside from Agonizing Blast, and other Cantrips you can grab. And if summoning your sword from an extradimensional plane of existence doesn't scream Gish, I don't know what does. |
| #9Knight_MarshalSep 04, 2015 15:08:09 | After talking to a guy at the table who played a warlock in the 1st season, he pretty much summed up warlocks as needing short rests like an addict or becoming just a EB spam bot. That is pretty much my take on them too and in the AL, there didn't seem to be that many short rests unless most of the party needed one.
I am looking at this for now.
Drow - Human STR 8 8 DEX 16 16 CON 14 14 INT 13 12 WIS 14 14 CHA 10 10
1. Rogue - Crossbow Expert (Human) 2. Ranger 3. Ranger 4. Ranger - Crossbow Expect (Drow), Sharpshooter(Human) 5. Ranger 6. Ranger
My difficulty in choosing which race pretty much has to do with sight. The Drow will have no problems seeing in the Underdark while the Human will not be able to pick up the Light cantrip as a ranger.
I could make the Human as a warlock/rogue mix with the first two levels in warlock though I would miss out on the two extra skills that I would get starting as a rogue.
