You are correct in thinking that your warlock spell slots are level 1. As you said Warlocks are left out of the spell slot count section because pact magic is different to spell casting. You will know all the spells a level 5 sorcerer would know and all the spells a level 2 warlock would know. You have the spell casting spell slots of a level 5 sorcerer and the pact magic slots of a level 2 warlock. You can use either type of slot to cast any spell known. You do not automatically know all of the warlock patron spells, they have to be selected using your spells know. You patron simply adds them to you availabke choices, it doesn't guarantee you them if you choose another spell. They aren't always prepared As warlocks don't prepare spells.

Thanks,

Just a heads up, you are taking a class that is made for optimizing short rests. Many games, especially public games, include no short rests.

1) Each of the patrons is useful in their own way and stronger at different levels. Since you'll probably be staying at Warlock 2-3 I think the fiend is good in a combat heavy game and the great old one is good in a plot heavy game.

2) I would rather have the Con save because it is needed to keep concentration. Sorcerers are the best concentration buffing class in the game, losing your concentration can mean losing 2 hasted party members for example.

3) If your DM will let you get away with this then yes. RAW allows it. If you start the quest at 7 pm and have been resting in an inn all day thats like 20 metamagic points you can start with. This will usually prompt immediate DM **** clinching reflexes and a probable nerfbat of some kind. Good luck to you.

4) It depends on how much mileage you're getting with your DM on those metamagic points and how often you run out of spells. On the one hand Elemental Affinity is really nice, especially with scorching ray. Even when you run out of spells, Eldritch Blast with Agonizing Blast is top tier damage. However, if you find yourself taking 2-3 short rests per adventuring day then going Warlock 3 (6 points) will gain you more metamagic points than Sorcerer 6 (3 points). Those points can be spent on just having more scorching rays. Also, don't discount the Warlock 3 pact. Pact of the Tome is super amazingly useful. You can grab such wonders as Guidance, Sacred Flame, and Shillelagh and Book of Ancient Secrets gives you better ritual access than the Wizard. In a plot heavy game I would recommend Warlock 3 first. In a combat heavy game I would probably recommend Sorcerer 6. YMMV depending on your short rests per day.

Hi WizardV

We usually play for a Sunday afternoon + evening, and our adventuring day usually has about 3 short rests on average.

The DM won't allow us to short rest before the adventuring day, which I agree with him. That seems just a bit too much cheese But having a regular short rest and then converting points, he is ok with that.

Thank you for all your other feedback, I will take it into account when I create my character
