So, am I missing something? Are there really only a very few number of Moon Druid Beasts total? And only a single form accessible at level 18+? |
| #2LeugrenOct 01, 2014 1:23:12 | There are a total of 88 beasts available to wild shaping moon druids within the DMDnDBasicRules_v0.1_PrinterFriendly.pdf. At higher levels, the choices get a bit sparse, but 88 is nothing to sneeze at. Also, there is a CR index for monsters available here: http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/MM_MonstersCR.pdf. |
| #3weishuiOct 01, 2014 1:33:36 | I just made a search in the MM 1 hour ago,and got the same answer: ---88 beasts(including dinosaurs) and 5 elementals all together; ---59 of the beasts are below or equal to CR1/2, which are not options for the circle of the moon. ---2 of the beasts are beyond CR6, which are technically not playable even if you are level 20.
88 looks like a big number, but for conclusion, Druids have only 32 creatures to mess up with, : 10 CR1 9 CR2 3 CR3 5 Elementals 1 CR4 3 CR5 1 CR6 yes, at level 18 we only have Mammoth.

Also, level 8 is a huge bummer, because you get your flying forms (finally), but there are no CR2 flying beasts. The only flying beasts are CR1.
I really think we need beast scaling options, both for mechanical reasons and story reasons. Some times a bro just wants to be a tiger. |

I'm assuming T-Rex (CR8) is the other. |

| #14GentlemanLoserOct 01, 2014 14:22:02 | In that instance, what happens at level 20, when a Moon Druid can in essence use a bonus action to give himself a temporary pool of Hit Points equal to his full pool? |

| #16GentlemanLoserOct 01, 2014 15:08:03 | Not only that, but the trade off for boosting low/lower than average Hit Points (and the Hit Dice that comes with them, for short rest regen) is the size/ability of the forms.
I'm not sure I quite like the ability to continually shift into a Tiny beast like a Spider with 123 Hit Points (and 20d8 recovery dice, instead of 1d4).
I agree that Beast need to scale in some fashion, but not sure this is the way to do it. |
