Hi! A friend of mine started dating a D&D player and I got interested in it, I love just about any game with an element of fantasy and I'd like to give it a try.
How can I find a group nearby my college to play at? I'd like to play with the friend but they're hours away.
I'm currently attending Radford Universtiy

I believe that the Wizards page has a feature that lets you look up stores that host regular DND events. Any local gaming store that sells card games or tabletop RPG manuals and minis usually hold or host DND groups as well, and would be a good place to start looking.

Thanks man that's a big help to get started.

Any other suggestions for people who haven't played a game like this before?
Like advice as far as making or leveling up characters?
Or just basic interactions with a new group?

I wrote this for first time players. It's gotten a decent response from some new folks and some Dungeon Masters.

Mostly it boils down to engaging with the campaign setting/world, going out and adventuring, and making sure you have an answer when the. DM asks "What do you do?"

Give it a look.

Here's the basic rules.  They are free.

There's enough for you to try it out.

You can always try here ( http://www.enworld.org/forum/memberlist.php ) too.  ENWorld has a pretty good system for finding other players.
