#1 atuthaj Jun 26, 2015 14:11:30	Just started playing 5E last night and I'm gonna be a Swashbuckling rogue, dual wielding of course. Just had a few questions. 1. I was thinking of multiclassing into fighter, I've never Multiclassed but I'm told it's very well balanced in 5E. Some of the benefits seem really well for DW rogue. But I'm having a hard time deciding when a good time to Multiclass would be? The soonest I can think of is lvl 5? If I dont want to miss a stat/feat oppertunity.Furthermore how much time should I spend in fighter? It would be nice to get the manuvers from battermaster. would I be sacrificing much if I go fighter from 5-8? Would it be better to go 4-7?   2. Also is it pointless trying to get DW feat before my dex is 20? (it's 18 now) I was reading and my friend/DM was telling that it really isn't that big of a benefit if you don't have a 20 dex and getting to 20 should be more important.   3. Can I even be a Swashbuckler and battlemaster? If the answer to this is yes, and the answer to should I do it is also yes, what manuvers should I look at?   Thanks that's all i've got for now, it feels really good to be playing again. Cant wait for next week.
#2 drizzt_zylo Jun 26, 2015 15:17:27	1 there is a rogue guide that might give u a clue as to how far you want to take fighter. 2 as far as I can tell you can take or leave DW the fighter fighting style is much more worth it. 3 yes take what u like just try not to overlap.

#5 Weezel Jun 27, 2015 6:38:27	I think you can get pretty good mileage out of Rogue 3, then Fighter 5, then back into Rogue (and you can pick up a 6th fighter level for stats/feats whenever you feel it's worth it later on).  That will get you Fighting Style, Extra Attack, and Battlemaster moves (some of which can be used to sneak attack), all good stuff!
#6 jaappleton Jun 27, 2015 6:45:50	Anyone suggesting to take five levels of Fighter is because they want you to have two attacks. Let's say you're rocking two rapiers. So call it 1d8+4 with each attack, that's an average of 9 damage. Nine extra damage per round, PLUS another swing with which to get Sneak Attack (Granted, you can only apply its damage once per turn... But every chance to do it is important).
#7 Nevvur Jun 27, 2015 9:25:35	They're suggesting you take rogue for the first 3 levels, and fighter for the next 5 or 6, switching back to rogue when you hit Character Level 8 or 9. I agree this is a pretty optimal progression.   As for maxing dex vs. DW... It's more beneficial to go dex first. Either route provides equal damage (assuming you are choosing 2xrapier with DW), but dex will improve several skills, a saving throw, AC at all times (not just when you are wielding two weapons), and initiative. The only advantage DW has over dex is the ability to draw both weapons on your turn without spending an action, so it may be more attractive if you like the idea of switching between ranged and melee combat.
#8 atuthaj Jun 27, 2015 13:15:33	Will it hurt my progression much to jump to fighter at 4? I mean, to not get the Dex upgrade? Or should I be fine since I have a 18 in my dex already?
#9 Coredump00 Jun 27, 2015 13:39:22	If you are planning on being more rogue than fighter...I would start rogue.  Then don't worry about the order.... there really isn't a 'best' option.  Each of those early fighter and rogue levels have some goodness for you.   You will want to get to fighter 5 or 6 at some point.... but pick whatever order seems fun to you.  (I would suggest at somepoint being Rogue 5/Fighter 5-6..... how you get there is up to you.)
