| #1tomservo999Sep 08, 2014 17:43:41 | First let me say how excited I am about the new 5th edition ruleset. As an avid 3.5 player (I never liked 4E) this new edition is definitely an upgrade. That being said I have one observation/question that I wanted to get people's take on.
It seems that depending on what weapon you are using in combat....every class has the same attack bonuses. Is this true? Am I missing something? But, I get the impression that a wizard and a fighter attacking with say, a dagger...will have the same chance to hit an opponent? |
| #2IllithidbixSep 08, 2014 18:25:55 | Well the Fighter will almost certainly have a higher STR or DEX than the wizard. Your attack modifier is Proficiency (so +2 at level 1) + STR/DEX depending on the attack. So I would expect the fighter's attack modifier to be a bit higher.
Otherwise, technically you're right, but you'll also note that a Level 1 Fighter with 16 Str (+2 prof. +3 Str = +5 total) will find it alot easier to hit a Adult Red Dragon (AC 19), than their 3E or 4E counterparts would. |
