I was a bit disappointed to see that Basic did not include the Noble background that comes with the Starter Set pregen Fighter. So, after reading through the Fighter class in the Basic PDF and comparing it to the pregen, I think I have reverse engineered some pieces of the background.

If WoTC deems it fit to remove this after it is posted, I will of course accept that and not seek to post it again.

Noble

Skill Proficiences: History, Persuasion

Tool Proficiences: One type of gaming set

Languages: One of your choice

Feature: Position of Privilege. Thanks to your noble birth, people are inclined to think the best of you. You are welcome in high society, and people assume you have the right to be wherever you are. The common folk make every effort to accommodate you and avoid your displeasure, and other people of high birth treat you as a member of the same social sphere. You can secure an audience with a local noble if you need to.

Equipment: Set of fine clothes, signet ring, scroll of pedigree, 25 gold

As for the personality traits, ideals, flaws, and bonds, well...buy the player's handbook in August. :D

Edited to include a description of the Position of Privilege feature.

If riding still a tool proficiency - I'd probably stick that in in place of gaming.

Position of Privilege is all right, but I quite liked the idea of having underlings. Ah well.

No worries. I agree that underlings may have been too complicated for a character aimed at beginning players.

There's also an Urchin background mentioned in Basic D&D doc, but not included.  It provides proficiency with Sleight of Hand, Stealth, and Thieves' Tools, amongst other unknown benefits – it's perfect for more of the Akira-style street gangster or Aladdin-style street rat sort of rogues.

I did a writeup of the Boble Background over on the Product and General D&D Discussions  forum a few days ago if you want some comparison;

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Noble background featuring in the D&D Starter Set was not included yet in the Basic D&D PDF. Here's a write up from what i could gleaned from the fighter pregenerated characters sheet using Public Playtest description and preselected suggested characteristics provided on the sheet for those who'd like to use it;

NOBLE BACKGROUND

You carry a noble title appropriate to the realm you come from. Your family either currently has or at one time had wealth, power, and influence. Work with your DM to come up with an appropriate title and determine how much authority that title carries within the realm and beyond it.

Skill: Persuasion, History

Proficiency: One type of gaming set

Languages: One of your choice

Equipment: signet ring, scroll of pedigree

Feature: Position of Privilege. Thanks to your noble birth, people are inclined to think the best of you. You are welcome in high society, and people assume you have the right to be wherever you are. The common folk make every effort to accommodate you and avoid your displeasure, and other people of high birth treat you as a member of the same social sphere. You can secure an audience with a local noble if you need to.

Personality Traits: My flattery makes those I talk to feel wonderful and important. Also, I don’t like to get dirty, and I won’t be caught dead in unsuitable accommodations.

Ideal: Responsibility. It’s the duty of a noble to protect the common people, not bully them.

Bond: My weapon is a family heirloom, and it’s by far my most precious possession.I have a hard time resisting the allure of wealth, especially gold. Wealth can help me restore my legacy.

Flaw: I have a hard time resisting the allure of wealth, especially gold. Wealth can help me restore my legacy.

Noble background without the money to support the lifestyle - is it going to remain?
