Looking to Play a paladin with the Oath of Vengence. From what i gather the new 5E pally is only restricted by having a good alignment? So, can ANY say forgotton realms diety have a paladin dedicated to Vengence .. like say Lathander.. or is it more of a War god Tempus type thing.. Opinions ?

Paladins w ho uphold these tenets are willing to sacrifice even their own righteousness to mete out justice upon those w ho do evil, so the paladins are often neutral or lawful neutral in alignment. Hmm.. so OoV Pallies don't even need to be good.. These sound like hard core knights Templar type dudes, rather than saintly ol'Pallies of yore!

That’s one damn grim Pally of Lathander! “With the dawn of this new day, I celebrate the Life of my Comrades-in-Arms, and the Light that warms the hearts of our People. May the flesh of our enemies be crushed beneath the holy tread of our anointed steel boots, and the blood of the Wicked flow like Rivers in the heartlands of our Faithful. All hail lathander and know her Mercy!”

My Vengeance Paladin for AL is going to be a LN Paladin of Kelemvor, the OoV is for those creating, trafficking, associating with the undead. I can see an OoV Paladin of Ilmater "I hope this hurts me more than it hurts you..."

The alignment section of the PHB states that Paladins are Lawful Good. The Paladin class section states that Paladins are rarely evil.

I'd interpret that as most paladins are Lawful Good (they uphold a very strong code of behaviour, and those codes require them to help people,) but exceptions exist and PCs have a higher chance of being exceptions than most other groups.

A non Lawful Good paladin may be more likely to break their oath, which may mean ceasing to be a paladin if they cannot resolve keeping their oath and helping people with their alignment.

I don't see anywhere that Paladins have to worship specific gods, or even a god at all. There are suggestions, but not requirements.

LN Paladin (Vengeance) of Waukeen; liberating wealth to stimulate local economies at ANY cost!

Given how vengeful chromatic dragons are, I could see Tiamat being the sponsor of evil Oath of Vengeance paladins.
