Oathbreaker vs. Blade'lock

Dec 31, 2014 2:31:01		So is there ever a case where the former doesn't beat the latter?

At level 5 a Blade'lock can pick up Thirsting Blade for a second attack with their pact weapon. At level 5 an Oathbreaker gets Extra Attack.

At level 12 a Blade'lock can pick up Lifedrinker to add their Cha modifier to their attacks. At level 7 an Oathbreaker can add their Cha mod to their attacks.

A Warlock with Armor of Shadows can have an AC of 13+Dex. An Oatherbreaker with Defensive Fighting Style can have an AC of 13+Dex, before shields.

Blade'lock is better between the sheets. All those deals with succubi, you know.

Eldrich knights and arcane tricksters are 1/3 caster, 2/3 fighter.

Paladins and rangers are 1/2 casts, 1/2 fighters.

Bladelocks and valor bards are 2/3 casters, 1/3 fighter.

Well I worked out what both could do, and an Oathbreaker 8/Blade'lock 12.

Pre-Accuracy, a maxed Str, maxed Cha paladin with Polearm Master and Great Weapon Fighting can do (reliably once per short rest):

2 attacks for 2d10(avg 12.6)+30+10d6, or 77.6 average damage. And

1 attack for 1d4(avg 3)+15+5d6, or 35.5 average damage,

That's 113.1 DPR before accuracy. It doesn't one-shot anything at that level, but it's high nonetheless.

at 7th Oathbreaker adds charisma to damage I believe, not attack rolls. The oath of devotion can add it to attack rolls.
